Hi Gang,
Apologies if these have been posted before.
After umpteen months of problems I have finally found the problem and a temporary resolution ;

1. Rough Starting / ASR / Number Plate bulb errors etc

The rough starting causes the ASR/Number Plate et al
errors appearing.

A good general fix is to get a meatier batter fitted -
had mine done under warranty.

2. Flat battery

Even with the meatier battery I still experience instances
of a flat battery after odd spells of not using the car for a few
days, sometimes its fine.

Garage tried a new Body computer - no avail.

Noticed purely by chance - left the glovebox open and saw
CD autochanger lights taking a few minutes before going out.
tested this over a few days and sometimes they NEVER went out.

Garage reckoned this was the cause of rough starting and flat
battery. A new CD changer didn't fix it.

I've done some more testing - if you do NOT lock the car after
getting out the CD always switches itself off after about 1 minute.

Weird?

The garage are getting FIAT to look at car as they reckon the
body computer shoudl fix any problems to do with locking and
leaving electrics on, unless of course I've had 2 faulty ECU's!

So , if you keep getting a flat battery AND you have a CD autochanger,
check the lights and lock the car after they go out.

Hope this helps somebody, its been a real pain in the butt.

Hi Big-Al

Great! I'm getting a CD Autochanger put in my car tomorrow! :(

As for the rough starting/ASR faults, I had ABS & ASR faults on starting - I've got a new battery on order (JTD's battery). Apparantly it's on back order - yay!

Number Plate bulb error - my contact had fallen off, and was causing that error. The car's in the garage as i'm writing this, getting it fixed (or i hope at least).

Hi Rroope are you going to install original Blaupunkt changer?

Hi

Yeah the original Blaupunkt IDC-A09 (Fiat Variant) is going into my car some time soon - the glovebox adapter is on order.

Can you check exact model of that changer when you get it ?
I want to buy it from spare parts shop, so I need that model number :) How much does it cost, changer and adapter from FIAT ?

Hi tpak

The changer model number is a "Blaupunkt IDC-A09 FH Fiat". It cost me about £200, which included the cable (£10) and glovebox adapter (£26). My friends at my dealership did me a nice deal! :D

Big-Al, I've noticed the same thing - the lights do take a long time to go out. Also, it doesnt remember where you last played the CD - it seems to add about a minute to the time (obviously the same time that it remains on) - does yours?

Hi Rroope ! What do you think about that changer, is it worth to buy?
Does it play cd-r's? Did you saw when they installed it, is it easy to install yourself? Is that adapter really needed? I just wonder what are differences between Blaupunkt catalog "Blaupunkt IDC-A09" and that
"Blaupunkt IDC-A09 FH Fiat"! Does it mean that you have to buy it from FIAT, original Blaupunkt won't work [?] Can you take some pics about it:)

Yup - see you noticed the lights staying on a long time - hopefully you won't get the same as mine where they sometimes don't go off!

Regarding the playing of CD's - I always stop mine at the end of a track and it does seem to start again at the beginning of the next track - although as I don't use it that often it might even be the same track being played again.

Hi Guys

Firstly, thanks for the reply big al. I've started doing that and its ok - perhaps it's a quirk of the car? Ah well, I'll live with it. My lights on the changer always go off. Also, I've just installed the JTD's battery in my 1.6. I wanna see if my startup faults disappear.

Tpak, firstly it's a great unit, and if you like CD's, get it. It's cool in that it;s like a face loading CD player, but you have 5 CD slots at the front (compared to the shufflers that go in the boot). It does play CD-R's. I dont know what the difference is between it being a Fiat model - it may be the wiring plug on the end.

In regards to fitting it, it is very easy. If you do go ahead, reply back, and I'll guide you how to do it (takes about 15-20 mins).

I'm getting a digital camera for christmas :)D) so I'll take some picy's in the new year.

MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!

tpak - the standard blaupunkt autochanger won't work in most of the fiats - see the following article, it has details from visteon in it:

Hi tpak

Hope you understand all this!

1. REMOVAL OF UPPER GLOVEBOX TRIM - remove the two Torx Screws (T25 from what i remember) on the upper part of the upper glovebox trim. With these removed, pull the trim out - it is "locked" in at the bottom, so it might be slighlty hard to remove. Just ease it out from the bottom once the top is loose.

2. INSTALLATION OF CABLE - Remove the radio (2 standard radio keys), and plug in the cable (check your Radio instruction book - it's in there somewhere). Look through the hole in the upper glovebox - you can push it through to that compartment. Once you have, put the radio back in.

3. INSTALLATION OF NEW UPPER GLOVEBOX TRIM - you need a new upper glovebox trim, with a ISO radio hole. Get one from Fiat. When you get the autochanger, take the metal cage out, and place it in the new trim (it clicks into place). Push the new trim back into the glovebox, remembering to pull the cable out. Make sure it sits flush at the bottom before you screw it back, so the glovebox lid will line-up correctly again.

4. INSTALLATION OF CD AUTOCHANGER - plug in the cable, and slot into the socket! I tried putting the fixing pads Blaupunkt suggested, but Fiat told me they are not needed - I agree, as the CD changer wont fit, and it nearly broke the unit!. Push the unit in until it clicks.

5. CODE INSTALLATION - turn the radio on, press "SRC" and the radio will ask for the code. Enter the code using the 1, 2, 3 and 4 buttons - confirm it using the 5 button.

That's it! Hope it goes well.

Oh I forget to ask: Is this glovebox adapter (£26) same thing as
NEW UPPER GLOVEBOX TRIM ?[?]

Hi tpak

Yeah, the Upper Glovebox Trim is the £26 adapter. I'll get some pics when I get my new digital camera for XMAS (well I hope I do!)

Merry Xmas!!
