Good afternoon everyone,

Had my 2004 '53 Stilo JTD for about 2 weeks now. I think I am in a position to give my opinion / review of my Stilo experience.

I have had two Stilos now. The first one was when they first came out. It was a 1.2 active. The second one I had was a 1.6 Dynamic.

I god rid of these cars due to all the little niggles that at some stage everyone has had!

But, I have given Fiat the benefit of doubt, I hoped it would be third time lucky and so far it has been :)

Picked up my JTD 5dr about two weeks ago. As soon as I got in the car I immediately noticed how improved the interior was. I know the trim colour is not to everyone's taste but I like it.

I am very pleased to say that unlike my previous Stilos. There are no rattles or bangs in the car. It feels very solidly bullt indeed. My previous Stilos felt cheap and rattled like a bag of nails. Thus far I have had no power steering failures, no airbag failures, no light bulbs out etc etc.

I will probably have jinxed myself now by saying all of this but it seems all the faults of the 1st series Stilos have been fixed. Certainly none are evident at the present moment.

I cannot put my finger on it but there is something about the second series which makes it feel well built and screwed together. I have to admit that this is a huge huge improvement from the 1st series and I say well done to Fiat. But not only has the build quality been improved, the engine is absolutely fantastic. I am delighted with the JTD. Much better than the Peugeot 2.0 HDI.

I know I do not want to count my chickens just yet but at the moment everything seems great.

What I love about the Stilo is that they are not as common as Focus's or Astras. The people at work were very impressed with the Stilo. One of my friends has a VW Golf and he commmented how nice the Stilo was to drive and to be a passenger in.

Overall I am delighted with this purchase. Hopefully I will still be saying this in 6 months :D

Now, anyone know the number for Angel Tuning and is anyone selling any 17" wheels ;)

Cheers,
Andrew

Congrats on your "new" stilo. (y)

Unlike you, i haven't owned a series 1 stilo, so i can't say if the built quality is better or worse with series 2, but i'll take you word for it (and be happy with my series 2 stilo).

You have to be aware that you'll be addicted to the JTD eninge in no time and as there's no known cure at the moment, you might as well book a time with angel tuning (haven't used them my self, but if you live in the uk, they seem to be the guys to go to). and i can only agree with the JTD engine being better than the hdi's (i have tried both in various versions). :)

I hope you'll enjoy it more than the other 2 you've owned (and i'm sure you will).

Many thanks for that.

I do have one question which I am sure has been asked many times before but I just cant quite find it via a general search. My question is, obviously my car is still under Fiat warranty. If something goes wrong with the car and Fiat need to connect it up to the computer will they be able to tell that the ECU has been remapped? Therefore invalidating the warranty.

I so want to get the car remapped ASAP but I am just a little hesistant with regards to the warranty.

If someone could advise, I would be very greatful.

Cheers
Andrew

Will you really be busted for an Angel remap  I always thought they were undetectable so that's news to me

I spoke to a guy at fiat once and he was talking about an abarth that he got to test drive and he said it had been remapped but the only reason he knew was because it was so much quicker.

Isn't it a case of, if they are not looking for the map they won't find it ?

Maybe Nige could sort this out for sure because I was gonna get mine done soon but I don't want to jeapardise the warranty.

Well i hope ive not said owt wrong and i want Stilosporting to correct this if wrong but he did say he didnt want fiat to find out about the remap when we went for a drink. So far they have not found out, but have been asking questions.

I thought nothing of it at the time but why would they ask questions??

When the post came up about warranty i remembered about this convo we had and i would assume that this is the reason he didnt want fiat to find out about it
