Hi

I need some advice on a problem i have with my Stilo Abarth 2.4.
It's 16 months old and has had it's 12,000 and 29,000 service. A few weeks ago i had a warning message telling me Oil pressure low - stop engine. I subsequently filled it with oil and all seemed fine for 2 days and then i got the same message again along with my engine cutting out. I refilled the engine and took the car to the local dealer. It was very noisy and not right at all. They say that it is likely i will need a new engine but say that Fiat may not do this under warranty because i had my car serviced at 29,000 miles and not 24,000. I find this amazing that they can treat people this way.

This is causing me alot of worry as a re con engine will cost around £3,000 minimum.

I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Thanks

Maybe not completely under warranty, try for some good will of them. The only problem is,was the service light flashing up for 5000 mile. oil should be checked everyweek and Alfas everyday more or less.

For me is absurd!... A engine in 2003 can't wear out oil!
Can lose it... if you brake the sump or something else...
Can degrade it with mileage....

But not drink it!...

If my car drink oil... I get rid of it in a second!

roby - a lot of modern engines are 'designed' to use oil - my 3 series BMW goes through about 4 litres of Mobil 1 (which is about £10 a litre in the UK) between services, and is considered 'normal'

It has done this from new....good job its a company car and I don't pay for the oil!

I have alwais had small engines...

1,1 - 1,4 I never had to fill oil... I change it myself every year (12-15000km)... (FL Selenia 20K )

Maybe engine most performant need to drink it and I said a nonsense...

I have just done a search: seems that an engine could drink 0,6-0,4l/1000km

You are right... sorry FE...

Mine had the "Oil pressure low - stop engine" problem. I took it to the dealer and they told me that there might me a fuse problem. They cleaned the fuse cos it had a lot of dust on it and they said if it comes up again then i have to take it back again. I noticed that whan i switch off the car after a wild run (150 - 160 km/h) the problem comes back again.
I will take it back and see what the h*** is going on.

To be fair to the dealer here the warrenty on every new car I have had or know of states you must keep to the service schedule. You have done 5000 miles over the limit and the issue is with the warranty company. If you ask fiat nicely they may agree to share the cost? And yes you must check the oil weekly. The bigger fiat engines burn a fair amount of oil.

Update:
I have just spoken to the dealer again regarding the replacement engine and he says that they may be able to supply a new engine under the warranty. They need to strip it out(at a cost of £200 to me) and check the cam. He says that if it isn't burnt blue, FIAT have said they will do it under warranty. Anyone know if burning on a cam would happen just through lack of oil, or is this normal? I regurlarly topped up the oil whilst it was running properly until i just suddenly lost oil pressure. Would this sudden loss cause a blue burn on the cam? In addition, I need a new motor in my drivers seat, a new window wiper motor (the thing has a mind of its own!!)and a replacement parking sensor. All in all i am thinking i should of bought the Golf V5.

2ND UPDATE:
Just spoke to the dealer again. He says that he will supply a re-con engine under warranty(sigh of relief). Apparently the regular FIAT rep who is a bit of a g*t, is on holiday so another guy has given the go ahead.
Also, just to let you know, the dealer (without being prompted), has installed 9.7 connect software due to a screach i was getting.
I must say that my faith in FIAT dealers has now been thouroughly restored. And in case anyone is wondering the dealer is Rockingham Cars, Corby, Northant's.
