It can be done... it's just a question of how much it's going to cost.

If you were fitting a regular pop-up aftermarket roof, then the manufacturer would just cut a hole in your existing roof and the headlining, drop the sunroof frame and glass into it and seal it with a rubber gasket.

But Skyroofs (and most factory sun-roofs for that matter) are more complex. The glass lies more flush so there's probably a channel inside/under the glass, with drains to collect and take away any water that gets past between the edge of the glass and the roof panel.

That channel would be a one or more pieces of metal that would need welding to your existing roof panel, after you've cut the right sized hole in it. Then you would need to fit drains, glass and motors etc.

The easiest/most reliable option and requiring less "skill" would be to find a donor, cut the whole roof panel off it, and get a body shop to weld the whole roof into your car, in place of your standard roof panel.

That would need paint (roof and around the edges where it's welded..but then so would the first option, since any welding of drains to your roof panel is likely to burn the existing paint.

Thank you for that. I had an idea it would be a full roof replacement but was hoping not. I'll look at other alternatives like an aftermarket Webasto kit instead so thank you for your guidance on this. Much appreciated.
