Morning!

I have already done a bit of a search, and havent found an answer to this one.

I have a 1.9JTD, 04 plate, with 140,000 on the clock.

Just getting home from work last night and the 'Engine Fault' light came on. I turned the car on and off, thinking it might have been a funny moment and it's still on.

The car drives absolutely fine, and there is no sign of any engine faults, but the light remains.

I just popped my head into my garage and said they can plug their ECU in this afternoon but it's £50 just to do that and tell me the fault, before anything else.

So I have ordered myself one online for half the price from eBay.

However with the very limited information, does anyone have any ideas? Or does anyone have a list of all the possible things an 'Engine Fault' covers?

The "Engine Fault" message could be caused by many things, so it will need diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the actual fault.

If you type the
P#### fault code into the forum

You will get a few pointers as to common issues

If the light came on as you were accelerating (particularly over 3000rpm) then my money is on the EGR. You should be able to remove and clean it - probably just a bit of inactivity/coked up.
