Probably one for BenR!!!!

I am thinking (again) of getting plastic rub strips painted same colour as car but have been advised to buy a new set (from a car painter) and if possible get them already primed from FIAT. Any one know if FIAT supply them primed????

Also any one know how all the rubstrips (2x front bumper 2x down eash side of car and one on rear bumper) can be removed????

Thanks in advance for any advice.

There are different rubbing strips for painting, I dont know exactly how they come but I did look into this when I was thinking of having it done.

All you do is order ones for an abarth, they come pre-primed.(y) TBH though you can get some plastic adhesion primer & go over it with normal primer & then paint.(y)

Hi Shminkypinky

Looked into this myself. As NumanR says, ordering the ones from the Abarth will make them arrived primed (and smoothed I'd assume).

Part No's are: (prices are approximate)

Front Bumper: You need Drivers Side (71717889@£34), Passenger Side (71718780@£34) and a new plug to cover the tow-eye (71718785@£6)
Drivers Door: 735321695@£17.50
Drivers Rear Wing: 735321738@£17
Passenger Door: 735321661@£17.50
Passenger Rear Wing: 735321714@£17
Rear Bumper: 71718808@£51, or 71718809@£60 for vehicles with parking sensors.

Bumper trims clip in easily, door and wing ones use b*****d clips that (usually) snap when you pull the trim off; do it slowly, carefully and evenly and you should be ok (there is a tool that FIAT mechanics use to make it easier).

Hope that is of some use! :D

HOld on there guys. Why pay for new ones when you can paint the ones you got now? thats what i did and not only that i painted them myself and saved a S#$* load of money. Its easy it just might take a day or two. You start off by removing the plastic sides on the doors by just pulling the end out slowly slowly. The back bumper strip is removed from the sitde by fist pullind outwards since thereis a plastic like slot a the ends and then by just pulling out like the side ones. Be aware that most of the plastic clips that hold it to the door will definately break its a given so just go get some clips from before to make sure. You have to first wash them really well and then sand them down first (making sure they are wet all the time)with some rough wet sand paper and then with a lighter wet sandpaper to get the shiny outside off and smooth it off a bit. then you wash them again. Make sure you dry them REALLLY well its important any moisture left will cause the paint to crack later on or bubble. You could use a blow dryer to help eliminate that problem. Go to a paintshop and make sure you get the right color giving the color code of the car isnt enough there are like 5 shades of the color code. If the man is a right professional he will go out, and compare it with cards, mix up the paint ,color a card and go back out to check it. You can get the paint in most paint shops in a spray bottle if you dont got an air spray, anyways you start off by painting them with some plastic primer and letting it dry about 20 minutes. put 2 layers on to make sure the paint will stick on well. Oh by the way forgot to say make sure you are doing this in a dust free closed up environment you dont want dust and dirt sticking on to it. Then you put 2 layers of paint put the problem with this is that paint takes alot longer to dry so leave it about 2 hours to dry off each time. then the tricky stuff the varnish is thick and its up to your discretion how much you wanna put i put only one layer. the varnish takes forever to dry up so i would leave it at least 12 hours to dry off. then you stick them back on. their perfect tottally match the car (which i highly doubt a shop would go to the trouble to get the same shade exactly)

Also click herehttp://www.stiloclub.gr/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=455 to see the diy photos we have on our site to have an idea i know i gave the procedure a bit of a crash course but is enough for you guys to do them
Take a look at the photo to see

I have done this about a year ago and are still perfect not even a hint of cracking or bubbling. Oh and another thing i got a quote of about 150 euros from a painter to do it. how much it cost me? the materials cost me 20 euros hows that for saving some money?Funny thing? every time i talk to a mechanic, painter, or to some guys at the garage i ask them do the plastics look like they came from the factory? most say yes and when i tell them i did it they have a suprised look in their face
