Until you get a working sensor in there it's going to be fruitless looking too deeply into the error codes, since they could be caused by something else, rather than the headline message. E.g. if a sensor is not properly connected, then you may get an error code saying that the sensor is faulty, whereas it would just need re-connecting.

In your case, the sensor sounds like it's not working. If you have cleaned it up and firmly re-attached the wiring and re-set the codes then that ought to have solved the problem, if the sensor was not faulty...

So it sounds like the sensor has failed (like light bulbs, they can just die eventually) and a previous owner has tried different remedies which involved cutting/re-connecting the wiring, which you found to be in bad shape.

Somewhere on the relay board (unfortunately I don't know Stilo's electrics that well) will be a relay that controls the lambda heater circuit. If you can track that down and make sure it's spotlessly clean and working (you'll need to test the voltage across the heater circuit) then that might be the last place that's causing a problem that is not the lambda sensor itself... but presuming that your atmosphere is dry and there's no green corrosion around the relay board connections, then the actual sensor is still the more likely culprit.

Did you get hold of the second-hand one?

Hi Ralf thanks for the reply.

It seems like it is the sensor yes.
I didn't get hold of it. The sensor needs to be post down to me because the guy stays in another part of my country. If he stays nearby then I could've quickly swopped the sensor before buying and see if it works.

Unfortunately I have to buy it in full with no guarantee AND theres no income at the moment during lockdown.

I saw the sensor looks different to the others I see on internet to be the one that the Stilo uses.
It was most probably already replaced and used one of those universal bare end connections sensors thats why he had to cut the wires.

See my pics I posted, fuel system status says its in closed loop using 1 02 sensor feedback fault. When I redone the wires and then it said in closed loop using O2 sensors for fuel mixture. Then it went back to 'using 1 O2 sensor feedback fault'.

Hi Ralf.

Question, are the sensors on a 1.6 wideband or narrow band sensors?

Hi, o2 sensor 2 after the cat (or where cat used to be) only monitors the performance of the cat , it has no influence on fuel trim.

O2 sensor 1 sends info to the ecu to enable the ecu to adjust fuel.
The reading you have seen , voltage switching up and down looks normal for a non wideband sensor.

If you have a misfire you will smell fuel at exhaust because cat has been removed unburned fuel in exhaust stream won't combust in car.

I would suggest looking for other causes of misfire before thinking you think it's o2 sensor fault.

How old are ht leads?

Have you checked ecu connectors?

Didn't stilo have a problem with ecu connector pins ? Someone who knows please jump in here .

Thanks for the reply.

The stilo runs on individual coil packs.
When the car stands for days on end without being started, and you idle her a bit then she picks up a slight misfire with rich fuel smell and then goes away.

If you start her and she has that slight misfire then drive her then in a few metres she comes right and no misfire.

She does drive with hesitating acceleration and a rough idle and loss in power. She is very sluggish. Previous owner removed the CAT. She never had a problem. She always drove really nice with no problem.
Im getting a P0141 code (O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction bank 1 sensor 2) even after I clear and the he will pop back up.

My wiring harness is good,no pins dropped on the ECU and ECU moved against battery box because of engine heat where it use to be placed.

I read that in some models after 2001,the downstream sensor has some affect on fuel from. It said the 2 sensors work together to get fuel trim and check CAT efficiency. it's a 2006 fiat stilo 1.6
