Hi.
Just a quik question

How many km(or miles) do you 1.6 16v stilo owners get on a reserve tank? I'm asking because I want to know how accurate my 'Range to empty' is on my Stilo. I don't rely on it but just wanting to know if it is accurate.

Thanks

I would be interested in this also.

Just yesterday I misjudged my drive so I had the dreaded 'Range to empty ---' when it goes below the 30 mile estimate.

Luckily I wasnt too far from the petrol station.

I am thoroughly tracking the fuel consumption for my 2002 Stilo 1.6 (you can take a look at it here: https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/814583.html), and all I can say is that when it shows 0.0 km left, you can still continue for at least 15 km (ofc with normal, fuel saving driving style). Maybe much more (like 30 kms) would be possible, but I never wanted to risk it ("intentionally" running out of fuel is not a good idea in Germany).

The tanks are the same for all Stilo engine sizes and models (58 litres). This includes a 9l reserve which is where the red zone on the guage is. When in the red zone - so with under 9l of fuel left, you get the orange warning light and "fuel low" warning on the dash which stays on and pings every time you start the car.

When you get under 50km of range left (for UK cars I guess it's 30miles) you get "Range to empty ---" on the trip computer.

I have a 1.4 but I've been able to get over 55km (over 33 miles) after "Range to empty ---". Of course I do not advise going down to the wire like this, but you can go for 20 or so miles after "range to empty --- " and still be safe. I always reset Trip B when the number goes from 50km left to --- to track how many miles I've done/have left. Be warned - when you reset the main trip counter, trip B stats are also wiped.

I average about 45 miles per gallon / 6,4l per 100km with my car for reference :) And the "Range to empty" counter is very accurate in my experience. It recounts often and adapts to you current consumption. I rely on it.

Hope this helps.

Edit - thought I'd just clarify the 55km after ---. The tank is actually slightly larger than 58l, I remember when I finally got to a petrol station (this was a dire situation whilst traveling in the middle of nowhere. I passed like 3 closed stations that night...) I filled the tank right up as usual and got over 61 liters of petrol in!!

Just another case of your Stilo wanting you to be safe and get where you need to be ;)

Wow nearly 200K miles, by now you must have experienced every Stilo problem going :D

Thanks all for the replies.
Was on my way home from a visit and it was pretty close to where I stay.
My fuel light came on and I checked range to empty and it said 125km. The light just came on.
Is that correct ? I was driving economic. I was doing like 90kmh and the instant consumption said it's using 3.5l/100 km.
Would it be safe to say my range to empty is accurate?

Yes your range to empty is accurate. That is exactly what should happen. The fuel light comes on when you enter the final 9 liters of fuel (i.e the red zone of the gauge) in the tank which equals about 125 ish km of range left.

I thought maybe its abit much for a reserve but realise that the stilo can be pretty light on fuel if you drive it with a soft foot.
