Hi All
Sorry for pitching straight in but trying not to scrap my Abarth.

Right then the Abarth failed its MOT on corroded rear subframe, Fiat quoted £1,518 for a replacement. Found one on eBay but didn’t fit even though the seller confirmed it would, no integral roll bar, suspension mounts different and ABS brackets in the wrong place.

So my question is what other models fit the Abarth or are there two different versions?

Thanks in advance

Hi
From what I have read, the Bravo has an upgrade on the rear suspension, better handling etc.
Were build with Stilo subframe, so might be worth investigating?

ePER has been down for a couple of days, so I can't have a look.. but you need to check out the part number of the Abarth sub-frame and then look to see what other Stilo models used the same part number.

Without any basis for my theory, I'd guess you have a 1.2 or 1.4 subframe... whereas the most likely other Stilo subframe that might fit is going to be the one from the JTD or MJet diesels. But check the respective part numbers... then go looking round the breakers. There's loads of 1.9 diesels out there, since they made it onto a lot of company car lists.

Alternatively (probably "better still") see whether the Abarth part number was fitted to any Bravos too. Bravo's are newer, so the subframe will be in better condition, all other things being equal.

ePER or your local friendly parts dealer will be able to tell you all the models your part number was fitted to, so don't rule anything out. I found that the subframe for my Alfa 155 was also fitted to the Fiat Coupe for example.

Failing all that... if you can't find one here, you will find one in Euroland for sure. Check out the Italian, Spanish, French etc. eBays and if you're friends with Neymar the footballer etc., get him to check in Brazil too (Stilo was there). Somewhere on the planet, there is a spare Abarth sub-frame with your name on it.. :D

Thanks Ralf, I tried Mangoletsi but they only said it fitted the Abarth, no other models. But I found a 1.9 diesel which appears on the face of to be the same one, which would make sense as that diesel is a torquey motor. They offer a 30 day returns so I’ll take a chance on it, thanks again.

Hmm....

The ePER is alive again so I had a look.

There are just two subframes available for the whole Stilo family (post 2004 model year). ePER is dated 2007, so would be a definitive "source of truth" for a 2005 car. I dunno what Mangoletsi is looking at.. but since your breaker's sub-frame was different, there may be something to it.

Anyways, according to ePER..

Subframe: 50703592, is for any Stilo with regular headlights.
Subframe: 50703593 is for Stilos fitted with the gas discharge headlights (Option 230).

I have no idea why xenon lights would require a different sub-frame; all the other suspension parts are identical, but there you go.

Your part numbers might be different (e.g. begining in 7...) since Fiat re-organised their part numbering around 2008-10 but anyways, a dealer would be able to find a part using its old number.

I'm just wondering whether your car (or the breaker's car) has or had gas headlights respectively, for the subframes to be different.

The rear sub-frame for vehicles with original HID Xenon headlamps has a bracket welded on it for the rear automatic headlamp levelling sensor. So one with the bracket would also be suitable for vehicles without HID headlamps.

I recall investigating this for someone several years ago. Strangely, at that time, the sub-frame without the bracket was more expensive that the one with it.

Also, at some point, the handbrake cable, and brake pipe locating brackets welded to the sub-frame changed position.

Hi, just for reference in case I need a rear sub frame in the future, did the diesel one fit your Abarth ?

Hi Maxcaddy
Oddly enough we didn’t fit it in the end, the garage had a 2003 1.6 petrol in which failed its MOT which the owner was going to scrap but the subframe was the same and in good shape, so that’s on it now.

So, if I put it all together, it would appear that an Abarth rear sub frame is identical to that off a 1.6, and from the other comments, it will also be the same as all other Stilo's, apart from those with Xenon headlights.

Which would then appear that the sub frame you were sold at the beginning as being the right one, was obviously off of something else (maybe FIAT but not Stilo).

Lastly (if or when it did happen to me) as long as its a rear sub frame off any Stilo, any engine, 3 door or 5 door, it should fit :)
