Stilo Wheel Alignment Issues

Stilo Wheel Alignment Issues

ive replaced every tyre on the car as they were all down bt i noticed a lot of wear on the inside of the front tyres, i got the car lowered and noticed the allignment was way off, pulling me to the left something seriously. so i asked the garage "modern tyre service" to allign it and they did (£15) they said it was really off and i should call back in a week to make sure its still running straight. thing is on my way driving home i still noticed that the car is pulling left, not to the same degree though
was just wondering how much is the proper computer/laser allignment as i would rather invest in it that a new set of tyres and a pain in the ass having to hold the stering wheel to the right constantly(n)

Re: Stilo Wheel alignment...

My front toe in is exactly in the middle of the allowed range which in degrees is -0°09'
No one has picked up in this error so I'll do it myself.

Toe on the Stilo is normally slightly toe-out (-0°09' is exactly in the middle of allowed range) and not toe-in

Getting through the MoT has just cost me a new offside front P6000 , due to inside wear, so I think I'll get it adjusted as close to ZERO toe as I can.

Re: Stilo Wheel alignment...

i just had mine done, again, for the second time in 12 months.

Different place did it and the readout basicall said my drivers wheel was pointing 1 (green) to the passenger side and the passanger side was pointing 4.7 towards the pavement.

I blame speed humps. I go over about 15 of the sods to and from work, all those dumpy square sods in the middle of the road. When i was motorway miles- no problems like this, but since changing routes to work- tracking problems galore.

All back in line now, been told my back wheel that wears the most is out of alignment but within tolerance but is different to the other, but was probably like that from when the car was made

mine did exactly the same when dropped 35-40mm on 18's pulled to the left.. had then tracked and still slightly pull to the left under load.... no whilst braking.. camber of the road can also be an issue... also tread patterns/wear from previous running before tracking will also have the same effect..

not that bad at all now, was really bad on the motorway- thats what made me notice it more- 70 miles of driving, more or less constantly steering right to go in a straight line.

No its nothing as bad as it was.

the bit that said 4.7 flashed red as it was over 3!

Don't think speed bumps should hurt your tracking too much but looks to me like you whacked your nearside wheel on something (most likely the kerb).

Those figures indicate (4.7 - 1) toe-out, in whatever units we're talking about, and also shows your steering was off centre.

Is it straight now?

One point you may want to consider is a Stilo subframe is adjustable. I could find nothing about it on e-learn, but the subframe moves a good few mm left/ right, front/back when the bolts are slackened off. It should be aligned correctly before setting tracking. I just roughly set mine using a tape measure and it has improved the steering a lot. It was about 3mm to the right. I was getting inside wear on one front and outside wear on the other + car was pulling left. Now it drives much straighter.

its rear camber i have a problem with now.

the steering is centred now a lot better, as in straight on m-way

I havent kerbed this car at all, however in early jan, i did smack a large pothole at 60+mph and it was the passenger wheel, but then again everything seemed allright after that thats why i didnt get it tracked

Will adjust castor slightly, but with camber, what you gain on one wheel you loose on the other, so it really has to be dead centre.
Good for equalizing camber then (y)

I've noticed the strut mounting itself offers very slight adjustment.

After having TWO sets of springs fitted to mine the alignment is now pretty much 100% all around :spin:

My car being a 54 plate was apparently not at risk from the uneven tyre wear problem as it was fixed on the newer Stilos and the only reason mine was out was from the lowering.

My car is also a 54 plate but uneven tyre wear is exactly what I was suffering from at the front until I went to a tyre specialist garage and had it resolved. Cost me 2 new tyres first though!!

Thanks for that info. I had the same problem, steering left, after putting Cobras on. Took car to ATS who said tracking was a smidgeon out, but still it went left.
Took car on your recommendation to Demon Tweeks in Wrexham who have got computerised tracking and they found it was way out and had to get oxy-acetylene to free track-rod ends.
Now is spot on and straight as a die.

Thanks pal :D
