My son has a fiat stilo schumacher and gear box has gone
Does new gear box have to be a schumacher or would a stilo gearbox fit into the schumacher housing on car
Please don't laugh I'm just his mummy trying to find a cheaper solution as have had a quote of £995

I doubt that there is something "special" about Schumacher gearbox, but you have to find a gearbox for that specific engine. You can't just put any gearbox in there. I think there were 2.4 20v petrol and 1.9 16v diesel engines paired with selespeed or manual gearbox in Schumacher. So first thing you need to do is find out which one you have.
They are not as common as 1.9 8v or 1.6 so they will be harder to find. Abarth Stilo should use the same engines, so look there.

Are you sure it's a selespeed? Mum doesn't say so. Why not take the existing gearbox to a transmission specialist for repair?
