Just put the Schumi through its MOT. Fail! Reason? Inoperative headlamp leveling on one side.

My Stilo (and most others I think) has a leveling switch on the dash. I've never ever used it as long as I've had the car. However, apparently the MOT rules have recently changed, so that if your car has this device, it's now part of the test, and must work!

So, worth checking yours both work before your next MOT...

I believe all the Stilos have it. It is good idea to check the connector for oxidation. If it's broken, you can replace it with servo for Skoda Octavia I. They are much cheaper (at least here 30€ vs 10€).
Be careful not to break the plastic holder, since it would mean new headlight. I changed both of them few months back with no problems.

My old beast passed its MOT in December and the levellers haven't worked since I've had it. The aim is okay though.

The description of your failure sounds like it's a specific test so maybe I just got lucky and the tester didn't know/bother to test mine.. but could they really mean your headlamp aim was out because only one adjuster was working, so one light was different to the other?

No, the static aim was fine, but when the tester tried to adjust the aim using the level adjuster, only one headlight responded. Like you, I've never used this function, but apparently it now has to work to pass the MOT...

when did the mot change to make it so it had to work as my dads schumacher is getting all the front bulbs changed so if anything needs to be done/checked before the mot soon that would be great to know cause the lights are a pain to do anything with haha

According to the manual for MOT's on the DVLA website the headlamp level adjuster ISN'T part of the test, see paragraph below:

If driver’s beam aim controls are fitted, you should test the beam aim without altering the control setting. If this would result in failure for beam aim being too low, you should re-check the beam aim with the control set at its ‘highest’ position.

So as long as your lenses are aligned then your fine.

MOT manual last updated September 2018 and that's off the GOV.UK website

Sorry I dont think youre right Zeewulf. See this section:

4.1.5 Levelling devices

Make sure any manual headlamp levelling devices (driver controls) work by:

switching on the dipped beam headlamps
operating the manual levelling device
checking that the headlamp beams move up and down
returning the levelling device control to its original position.

Headlamp levelling device inoperative. Defect Category - Major

Manual levelling device cannot be operated from the driver’s seat. Defect Category - Major

Yellow Peril

I stand corrected.

I'd assumed that section just covered HID's & LED's as that what's mentioned mainly throughout that section.
