hi all, I have a 1.9 JTD just changed the crank sensor and the tip of it was covered in oil ? just checked the new one and the tip of that is covered in oil too?? is this normal, am I being completely thick here? my logic was it is pointing at the crankshaft whirring round and it i going to throw oil onto it so the sensor will pick up a reading through the oil, the mechanic thought the crankshaft oil seal had gone and it was leaking onto the sensor which should be dry???? I am so confused, can you knowledgeable guys and gals advise please, any advice appreciated.:confused::confused::confused:

Hi,
You are correct, the sensor is wet. The target, called a phonic wheel, on the crank is inboard of the seal, see photo
