Ladies and Gentlemen...

My old ciggie lighter decided to fall to pieces last year, leaving me to navigate all the way from Calais to sunny Napoli just on my 9 yr old Tom-Tom's battery power. That went well then... :D

I got there by using the Tom-Tom around the tricky parts... and going "analogue" (reading the road signs) the rest of the way..

Anyways, Santa bought myself a new ciggie lighter for Christmas... but it's slightly different to the old one, which may be because it's the wrong part, or because my old one was in such a bad way.

The old one was just a "tube" with the connector on the bottom. The orange plastic illumination (?) ring was half missing and the back-light never worked. I can remove it by just lifting it out of the console. It's held in by gravity.. :D

The new one has a little black plastic saddle on it, which houses the back-light bulb that my old one is missing. I *presume* the old lighter was pulled out by Gary Gorilla one time and, unable to get it out of the console, he just wrenched it out, breaking the orange ring and the back-light saddle.

My question is how does the new lighter fit into the hole? I dunno if it will fit through the hole with the saddle on it.. it's about 7-8mm tall and the hole is just "round". The lighter can't fit in from below since the back-light ring acts as a flange to stop the lighter falling into the console.

Have I got the right part?

My new lighter looks like this one. Mine is orange but otherwise it's very similar, if not identical.

My old lighter is the same but without the black plastic saddle bit. You can see that in relation to the hole it has to fit into, it's a pretty big obstruction.

The lighter itself (apart from no backlight) and the socket works fine.

You can take out the inner metal part of it out then put the light ring in the hole and slip the metal tube back inside again

What does the saddle do.. hold the lamp?

Can it be peeled off..?

Insert coloured tube.. then insert metal tube

Yes, the black saddle bit looks like it holds the back-light bulb. I dunno if it can be removed from the tube without breaking it.. :D but that's probably how it fits.

I'll have to have a tinker with it. I'm hoping the ring and the plastics are easy to detach from the tube and will then fit into the hole so the metal part can be just pushed into it.. but the beast cost a few quid so I'm nervous about breaking it.. :D

I managed to fit the beast. :D

The coloured piece that houses the bulb/saddle can be slid down the metal tube until it reaches the black section on the end that holds the connector block.

I discovered this after I removed mine altogether but then it was a faff to put it back on, since it has little notches in it that align with some splines on the black section. However, it's not necessary to remove it; with the saddle that near to the bottom of the tube, it's possible to hook it into the hole.

The bulb lights up now with the car's lights so I'm getting there.. but during my poking about I think I might have blown the fuse for the lighter itself since it doesn't work, either as a lighter or as a power supply for my sat-nav (which is 99% of what I'll use it for).

Does anyone know which fuse controls the lighter? I could pull them out one at a time but if someone can look it up then that'll save me a rummage.

Ta.

Aye! But this fella didn't have a new coloured piece with his new lighter.. he just had the core.

Mine came with a new coloured piece attached. If you just pull the coloured piece back to the position that he has it in at 2:30 then you can hook it through the hole. There's no need to remove it from the core piece.

Anyways.. just need the fuse number now, so I can check mine.. :)

The wifes is broken im actually only after the socket really, but the lighter in ours is damaged at the ring and pulls out....
It also has recessed connectors which appear to be exactly like
this
Fiat Panda one although you cant actually see the connectors on that photo

This is for a 500 though not a stilo!
