Hello everyone,
I would appreciate if you can write down something on the topic, advantages and disadvantages, comparison between those two models, which one is more reliable etc..
Thanks in advance.

Hi.

Its an OLD car now..

So the life it has led ..will be as important as the quality of the factory product.

I have never owned a stilo.. as they were not sold new in my region.

I believe there (were) are many coil pack issues reported.

And of course the Stilo was FIATs attempt to clone a Golf.. complete with poor electrics :(

Why do you want a big petrol ??
The JTD may be a better car.. but of course the mileages covered will be VAST.

Tell us more.. :)

1.6 cooks it’s ECU as it’s on the back of the engine, can be moved to avoid over heating it. Gets decent mpg though.

1.8 is quicker and doesn’t seem to have as many reported issues that I’ve seen. But drinks fuel.

I’ve a 1.8 myself. Only issue I’ve had is one of the coils going. But it’s a 10 minute job to change and cost around £30-60.

Other than usual suspension (bushes) issues with MOTs it’s been spot on for well over 3 years

But like someone else mentioned, given the age of Stilos, it’s how they’ve been look after previously.

I’ve got lucky that my 53 plate 1.8 has only done 50k. And I’ve done 10k of that in 3 years.

Hello again :D , thanks everyone for answering to my topic, I know some time has passed since I set this topic. I shall try briefly to write couple of sentences regarding comments above.
I think that petrol engines are more convenient for cars and diesel engines are more convenient for "working machines" like trucks because they are more robust (but that is mine opinion :D and it does not mean that I am right). In past years I drove FIAT models, the 128 and the Tempra and I was very satisfied with them and I would like to continue with this tradition of driving FIAT cars. Of course, there where a lot of problems with both models, especially with spark plugs and light bulbs that were turning on and off randomly ... mechanic told me that the only problem is with electrical installations so that is the only thing that I blame on FIAT, poor quality of parts but in general, great cars.

Given the choice I think the 1.8 engine is a newer design and seems to have less issues with the ignition and ECU electrics, etc. but that might only be because there were lots more 1.6s sold, so more owners to report any problems.

I would look for a 1.6 and a 1.8 and then buy the best one you can find, regardless of the engine size. Stilo is pretty good once you sorted out the minor niggles.

After i repired ECU and put to another place i became very satisfied with my Stilo 1.6.

No errors at all. Fuel consuption is very decent. 6.7 litres / 100km. On highway its about 7.3 (130-140 km/h)
