Hi All,

I have got a broken front spring seat clamp? It's a metal clamp that fits around the bottom of the front spring when it's mounted on to the shocker. My current one was broken and has got a temporary repair on it, but I want to swap it out for a new set. I remember that it was a standard item on the 2.4, but I forgot that mine had it it fitted too.

I would like a part number and maybe a link to anyone selling one.

Cheers

Think you're referring to the infamous "Spring Catcher". Fiat called it a "Spring Containment Ring Set". It's purpose was to catch the bottom coil of the spring when it broke to prevent it puncturing the tyre. Fiat alleged that salt on the road was causing bottom coils to break.

It wasn't standard on any Stilos. It was fitted by Fiat dealers as a recall available to all Stilos up to VIN ZFA19200000644197. After that VIN, the design of the shock absorber was changed to incorporate a cup shaped, instead of flat bottom spring mounting plate.

There are two sizes of spring catcher kit depending on what diameter (52 or 45mm) shock absorbers you have. Part numbers are shown in the recall service bulletin PDF below.

Interesting to see the technical bulletin and the official fitting instructions. It seems to me that the spring catchers are all wrongly "stickered".

My old ones had a "LH/SX" sticker on the right-hand catcher (as fitted) and "RH/DX" on the left-hand catcher.

If the fitter had put the one marked "LH" on the left hand side of the car, the lower bracket (big bolt) would have had to be bolted to the damper bracket via the tie-rod.

Mine were fitted "back to front" (according to the stickers) so that the tie rod used the rear damper bracket hole and the spring-catcher bracket was mounted to the front one, as in the diagram (it's the right hand wheel shown in the photos).

My new catchers also had the stickers on the "wrong" part. I can't remember if I went with "how the old ones were" or followed the stickers (i.e. fitted the lower catcher bracket to align with the damper bracket/tie-rod hole). I'll have to check now.. :D
