Rafazzi,

Any tips for installing a driveshaft oil seal?

I’ve taken the old one out but for the life of me the old one won’t go in. I need something like a 40mm socket to use as a drift around the rim but I don’t have one. The bugger keeps popping out if I try to tap one side at a time.

There must be a way the factory fits them... or does anyone have any other ideas? It’s making me swear a lot... :D

I replaced mine yesterday, I used an old piece of pipe, you could also use 2 pieces of wood and try to tap on both of them at the same time with a hammer

do you have the measurements for the oil seal of the exhaust camshaft

do you have the measurements for the oil seal of the exhaust camshaft

30 inner diameter
42 outer diameter
7 width

Replaced exhaust and intake a week ago. (1.8 16v)
Make sure you push the seal in with a socket or a plastic pvc cap.

I think I've made a mistake and I've mounted the oil seal from the driveshaft the one that sits on the oil pump cause I get oil drops out of the exhaust camshaft, does the driveshaft have another measurements cause the look pretty much the same

If you still have the old seal you can see the numbers of the measurements printed inside the seal. Give it a good clean and look really closely. They should be there.

the one on the crankshaft is 31x41x7 that 1 mm difference is causing massive oil spills

My driveshaft oil seal (JTD) is bonded inside a metal sleeve with a metal cap over it, so it doesn't look like a cam-shaft oil seal.

I managed to fit the sleeve into the differential *eventually* after using some emery paper to make the chamfer marginally smaller. The seal was a Meyle seal.

I still needed to press in both sides at once. I used two wooden dowels held in a "v" and was just about able to tap them both at the same time with a mallet.. :D

Since the seal sleeve has a blue coating (oil-seal?) and it was removed by my sanding down, I used some Blue Hylomar in the differential seal seat, so that oil couldn't escape behind the sleeve.

I won't be doing *that* job again for a while.... :)
