Technical ASR / ESP failure

Technical ASR / ESP failure

i would suggest to them that they ask Fiat for advice or take your car to another Fiat dealer. A problem like this is going to be down to a failed sensor or switch and the air con gas is a red-herring and a coincidence!

Now everything is working! Yesterday I got my car from service.
No more ARS / ESP problems. I'm not sure what they did to my car, but
they said that they had added some extra resistors to wire harness.
Don't ask what wires they meant... I don't know... :D

Now I know why they added the resistors. They added the resistors to make
the engine think that aircon is always ON. This results to that the ARS/ESP failure code
wont appear... but this produces another problem to my car...

Now the engine stops when revmeter shows >3000 and I quickly release
gas pedal... Revs drops to fast so low low that engine stops.
This happens only when temperature more that 3 degrees of celcius...
When weather is colder it works fine!

I just love my new Fiat Stilo...

Hi

My bro's new Abarth had this problem after he took the battery out to stop the fan (it was jammed on). Now that has stopped, he had ABS, ASR, EDB and ESP errors.

Apparantly, it was fixed by allowing the steering angle sensor to re-learn its parameters. It was in a supplement book he had from FIAT. That has cured it, and it took him only a few minutes to do.

I believe that your bro's problem is a different one that I have.
Importer, service nor factory doesn't know how to fix this problem of mine...
I have been waiting since 10th of December.

Hi Mikz, have you had a body computer fitted yet? also, have a look at the jack plug under the fuse box beside the battery. Has the car recorded any errors and do you know what they are?

hi

I've suffered from ABS and ASR failure when starting the car went its below 6`c and the engine is cold.my dealer told me that fiat know there is a problem but dont know how to fix it.there looking in to the problem. how long do i give me to fix it?
and what do i do if they cant?
ask for i new car?
got my car on the 28th of nov.and it went wrong on the 29th of nov.

Hi mossy

Sorry I can't help with the -6 fault, never heard of that.
I would expect Fiat to be in contact with a fix by now, keep on to your dealer to contact Fiat.

Hi Mossy

I had exactly the same fault with my Stilo 1.6. The ABS and ASR failure messages would appear immediately after starting the engine, then disappear and not be recored. It would happen most when the car was cold.

After FIAT tried suggesting it needed a new Steering Angle Sensor (a part which my car doesn't even have), I myself thought that it was the battery not having a big enough capacity to start the car and simultaneously supply enough current to the car's systems. I was told that the car checks ABS and ASR whilst the car is cranking, as it they are priority systems. Therefore I concluded that, if the battery was poor, these systems would not get enough power, hence not return the correct current/voltage, hence displaying a fault which would immediately disappear once the altenator punched the voltage and current up.

I got my dealer to replace the battery, and put the one from the JTD in (£14 extra for me to pay), and touch wood, the fault has never returned, and we've had some cold mornings here since then. Give it a go.

Hope that helps!

Just to make things clear about my problem, in my car was ESP/ASR failure, NOT ABS...

Just got information that factory has come up solution to my problem!
Don't know what it is, waiting to get information from service when I can take my car there! :D

Hi Mikz.

Please tell us what the solution is when you get it :).

My brother had to make his Steering Angle Sensor re-learn itself which cleared all his faults (he got a supplement manual).

Dear fellows,

The ESP/ASR failure, occurs only when engine temp is very cold.
In most cases, cars that sleep in the street and are exposed to low temps.
This appear to be an error produced by defective sensors, and FIAT is dealing with this error right now.
VERY IMPORTANT, get the car to dealer, and make them give you a solution as soon as Fiat have emited the fix in the internal service network.

Temporary solution, START THE ENGINE, LET HIM GET SOME HEAT, AND RESTART CAR.
The failure must not appear again during drive.

Nope, the ESP/ASR failure did not go away as the engine got warm.
The failure stopped showing after they added some resistors some where to the engines wires.
This caused the engine to think that aircon is always ON --> no ESP/ASR failure code.
This ESP/ASR is already fixed.

Still waiting that my local service gets information/tools that they can repair the engine going off failure. This engine going off was caused by ESP/ASR fix. :(

Hi Mikz
Still don't understand why resistors in engine wiring could fix a fault with ASR which is controlled by the ABS ECU, not to mention that your car does not run right now.
Is it not about time your dealer called the Fiat support technican to get this sorted.
Best of luck

Yes the solution is from Fiat support, ASR/ESP failure was somehow related to aircon and when engine thinks that aircon is ON no failure code...?!?
but now the engine thinks that aircon is ON the engine has problems maintaining correct revs when releasing gas pedal quickly.
This can be avoided if I keep aircon ON... (try to figure out...

)
I'll keep you updated after having it fixed, which hopefully happens soon!

How do you keep the aircon on in Finland this time of year?

The system automatically shuts off at low temperatures - even here in England my aircon is off at the moment!

I had the bells & whistles warnings today on the way home from my dealer (I had the door seal replaced)in the heavy midlands snow. The display told me that there was an ESP, ASR & ABS failue. Both the ABS & triangle ESP lights illuminated on the dash and the ASR switch lit up. A spanner icon also appeared. I turned the car off and re-started which cured it for a few minutes but it came back. Us Brits are not used to the snow so I was sh*ting myself on the M69!
It's back in in the morning:(

Yes I know it is not actually on, but it is enough that I push the aircon button and the aircon light turns on.
