The battery went in it a couple of weeks ago, so I've doing it manual. Just fitted a new battery but no joy. Do I have to register the key or something?

Thanks

It probably wasn't the battery that failed....

Regrettably the Fiat Stilo has a strange bug / technical fault / glitch (call it whatever you like) in it's programming that allows it to randomly drop it's remote control key programming. If you have a read through you'll find there have been rather a lot of owners experienced this, myself included.

When my car decided to lose it's programming I got in it, drove the three miles home from work all completely normally. When I got home, got out the car pressed the lock button once it lock it, then when I pressed the lock button again just a split second later for the deadlocks, nothing. Gone. Just as quickly and simply as that.

Even more annoyingly is that remedying the problem isn't particularly straight forward as the car has to be reprogrammed to accept the key.

This means either asking the dealer to reprogram the car for you, as only the dealer has access to the security code needed to program the car, or; you can reprogram yourself using a piece of software called MultiECUScan and a laptop, an ELM cable modified for the software and your security code.

The security code for your car can be purchased from a main dealer, although they can be a bit funny about letting you have it they will sell you it. It's stored with a company called Retainer Group but only the dealers are registered with Retainer Group to be able to access the code. They simply fill out an online form and the code gets emailed to them a couple of minutes later. The dealer may charge a flat rate of up to one hours labour for this though.

The software is around 50 euros plus the cable around £15. You have to have the full, licence version of the software in order to access the feature to reprogram car and keys. There is a free version of the software but the feature you need is not available in free version.

You can always ask on here if there is a member local to you with the software who will help you out but you will still need to provide your security code.
