Hello, I have Stilo 1,6 16v, 2001 from 1 month. It was working perfect for the first two weeks and then started the common problem for this engine - lose conection, ASR failure, altetnator failure which as I understood the problem is related to the ECU. I watches the video with resoldering the pins of the ECU and paid to electrical engineer to do it.

The problem was fixed for 2-3 days but then appeared another one which I cant find a way to fix. One morning I started the car and it was working on 3 cylinders and a lot of white smoke was coming out of the exhaust (unburnt fuel), the injector was permanent open. I decided to bring the car to my mechanic, he was thinking that the problem is injector, changed it and the car was working fine for about 1 hour then engine fault came and the car lost 1 cylinder again. I bring it again to him and he said that most probably its the ECU. Now the car is working on three cylinders and there is the injector of cylinder number 3 is permanent closed or opened, it doesnt work on impulses, like it should be. I cant find any decision to the problem. I also bring the car to another service and there they also said its ECU but they can only resolder it which is already done.

So my question is, do I have to buy a new ECU or it can be fixed, if you have any ideas how i can fix the problem please tell me.
P.S
Sorry for my bad English.

I had similar problem with my 1.6 MW.
You have 3 option regarding ECU change:
1 - Buy a new but that is really expensive
2 - Buy a used but virgin one. This means the immo data is deleted from the ECU so when you install it to your car during the first startap it lears your immo data and it will belong to you than. When I had my problem 5 years ago I bought and ECu from England and my car runned with that for years and that is sill working.
3 - Send you ECU for refurbisment. Sometimes the resoldering is just temporary solution because some of the components also need to be changed on the mainbord of the ECU. I liveing in Hungary so I can propose a company here for you who can do this with garantee.
You can reach them here: www.autodigit.hu
It cost approx 100 to 150 EUR.
For sure there is a company in your country who can do the same.

Regarding the white smoke. I had that problem as well when my car reached 180.000 km. It was the headgasket. When the colling liquid can enter to the engine and it is comming out trough the exhaust it is generating rally thick white smoke because of the glicerine content of the cooling liquid.

Did you checked the injector with MultiEcuScan?

I hope it helps a little.

You can also actuate every of your injector by MES. If you find somebody who can listen for the clicking noise while you press the execute button in MES than at leas you can check the basic functionality of your injector coil.
If it was changed already as you wrote than for sure it is not pure injector problem. There is some connection issue what Peter Pick-Up mentioned.
The question is where. :)

Thank you for the answers, the problem is going to be the ECU, now I left the car in a specialized service and I am waiting it to be fixed, after I take it, I will write what was exactly the problem.
