I have a 2004 Fiat Stilo 1.6 16v Multi with very little compression on cylinder 4 so I take it one of the valves has gone or the piston has a hole in it . So I will be replacing the engine , will a 1.6 16v out of a hatch fit a multi wagon and will the gearbox be the same with it being an estate.

Should all be the same stuff mate yes. Sorry to hear your motor has gone, hope you get it sorted OK.

If you want to be doubly sure you can use the Fiat parts catalogue online, called ePer. It'll give you the part numbers that were fitted to all the different vehicles.

Have you tried just changing the head gasket, that is more likely than anything else and alot simpler than a transplant

Aye! May be worth trying to repair.

A duff piston or valve will be giving you quite significant running problems, which you don't mention. A holed piston would be a spectacular amount of smoke out the back.

It may just need a new head gasket.
