Hi all,
I own 2 2004 1.4 Stilo's, one has over 100k ( the body work on this one is almost immaculate) the other car 50k on clock but I think previous owners used as a dodgem car

The 100k car is starting to use oil & water, which I'm assuming is the head gasket? There is a few other bits and pieces which makes me think about swapping.

My question is........Is it possible to swap engine / gear box & management system from one to the other without to much of a headache?

Thanks in advance.
Graeme.

In theory, yes...

You don't need to swap the ECU. That is more related to the car "body" than the engine. If the ignition key, Body Control Module and ECU are from the good car, then it will start the engine from the bad car.

But... if you're swapping the engine and gearbox, that's a fair bit of work. It may be easier just to stick a new head gasket on the leggy engine?

If the engine is the same (example both cars are the 1.4) then you can swap the engine and gearbox no problem.

You would need to recode injectors if its a diesel engine, dont think you have to with petrol.

No need to swap ecu or anything if you have same engines... why not keep the 50k engine as spare and as ralf said you can do headgasket on 100k engine... at least if it ever pops you have a spare 50k engine and if your tuning... you can rebuild your 50k engine whilst the car is running on the other engine?
