Hi,

Has anybody that has had a faulty instrument cluster ever had...

1. A shorting out type electrical sound coming from behind dash when the car is switched off? (it sounds like a cracking static sound)

2. Issues with the car stalling on tick over? Mine will tick over ok but as soon as you rev it it stalls instantly. Sometimes it will stall even without reving it.

What I am wondering is can a faulty cluster actual make engine stall/not rev ? or is it a different issue causing that. The fan comes on by itself and what ive noticed is if you touch flap in throttle body it will stop fan. I have cleaned throttle body.

Cheers

1) Crinkling yes.. on two different clusters.

2) Stalling never. My car ran fine even with the clocks out of the car (away being mended).

Stalling issues could be the throttle position sensor. First job would be to check the connection and (more likely to find something) then clean it (carefully) internally.

Instruments Cluster malfunctions

Greetings Everyone. The name is Gift... New within the forum and I already feel good being here

I'm a new owner of a fiat and it's a 2006 1.6i 16v Stilo 3door.

I have an issue where my Instruments cluster keeps going on and off while driving. At times it doesn't go on at all. I'm finding it difficult to read my speed, fuel or temp and other important notices.
I read somewhere that probably a faulty or old battery might be the cause as it has a hard start at times. I checked the fuses but all seem okay.

If anyone has some information that could help I'd appreciate it a lot.

Thank you. [emoji120] [emoji120]

Greetings... I'm having the same issue on my Stilo 1.6i. The cluster comes on and off and there is a funny sound coming from the cluster when it goes on and off. Jerking... Not really that much but while driving I can feel a slight dip of power then back again once in a while. Not sure if a faulty or old battery might be the cause.

Thanks for info guys. I thought it should run ok with cluster out so it’s another issue. Will try the throttle sensor. (y)

Does the battery start the car easily? If it doesn't have any problems starting then the battery is probably okay. If you have a voltmeter, the battery voltage should be 12.6V when cold. If it's less than 12V then the battery needs a good charge (8 hours) or it's not holding a charge in which case it needs to be replaced.

You can also test the alternator output - voltmeter across the battery with the engine running should be 14.5V.

If you don't have a voltmeter, if you turn the lights on with the engine running and just blip the throttle a bit. The lights should not get brighter at higher revs.

The clocks issue is most likely a cluster problem though. A low battery usually results in a lot of warning lights randomly different, and error messages on the little LED screen. If you look up Yellowstilo on this forum, he can repair for a reasonable price.

Jerking throttle can be a few things... but 1.6 is famous for coils and ECU issues. ECU is a major one, so elimintate the obvious/simple problems first. Are the plugs well gapped? Are the injectors clean (stick some injector cleaner in the tank)? Are the coils all seated properly and in good condition?

Thanks very much for the input and information. I highly appreciate it. It's the first Fiat I'm owning so I'll take your advice on that one.

I don't have a voltmeter so I can't test it now. But true enough when the car is running... And when I switched the lights on, the dash lights go dinner and when I receive it up a bit, they become a bit brighter. The battery does not start the car easily. Have to keep my foot on the paddle while starting to give it a good boost.

I'll look up yellow stilo and give him a call.

Thanks
Gift
