OK so not posted for a while but I have a stilo 1.2 for the last few weeks its randomly stalling and takes a few times won't start but then once runs drives normal again no faults what so ever. Not sure if just a plug or coil problem anyone shed light on this would be great full

Does it do it when its warm?
Then start fine when its cold.

If it was coils etc it would log a missfire in MES.

You may have cam position sensor faulty.

Yea it does when warm mainly has a few times when cold the rev counter fluctuates when its about the do it and has a spluttering sound sound will give the plugs and coils a clean see if it could be dirt build up on them

After that, it is also a good idea to check grounding points. When staling happens, does the car start beeping and gives you error messages?

There's only a message once come up for a split second saying oil level fault but never appeared again but thanks will have to check the grounding points in the engine its mainly happened when the weather is wet if that sheds any light on this but when the weather picks up will check every ground on the engine and plugs and coil connection see if it helps

Check as above and also check dipstick... if it's popped out you may have a cam breather blocked causing the dipstick to pop up and throw up an error about oil pressure... just a hunch but possible

Sorry aj... i missed that you said it mainly happens when wet.

Can you spray some contact cleaner onto the big connector under the fuse box near battery. Think its called the D4 connector and has a purple color to it, its known for becomming wet due to under spray when its raining or driving through puddles.

My old 1.2 had a plastic tray with scoop / drain hose attached under the battery to help drain this area when water built up. Others dont have this piece of plastic tray in.

My 1.9 multijet is different, no tray to drain, rusty metal tray but... nothing can spray up there... I have intercooler piping and airbox down there where as petrol variant doesnt.

Agree with above, your car is exhibiting signs of an electrical issue which is causing it to stall, as opposed to a sensor or mechanical issue.

Clean the connector as advised.

Also refer to the guides section regarding cleaning of the fuse board on top of the battery. Recommend cleaning the connectors and terminals for the battery.

Once all clean and sorted, test the alternator - engine running check the battery voltage, it should show about 14.5v if all is healthy.

Well, there are a lot of ideas and advice going around for something mysterious, as you describe. Here goes one more, based on personal experience of the exact same problem, but in a Uno.

I don't know the mechanics of the Stilo but if it is anything like the Uno, where the Electronic Ignition Module is mounted on the distributor, then it is likely to suffer from the same problem, electronics overheating. Over time a silicon component fault may develop and the Ignition Module will behave somewhat erratically. The matter can be checked by connecting an oscilloscope to the coil positive, at the exact time when the engine refuses to start. The ignition pulse trace will appear irregular and untimely, all over the place... Another way of testing the theory is to get a new Module and hopefully, the problem will go away. By the way, if you could mount the Ignition Module away from the engine, somewhere cool, the problem is unlikely to happen again.

Best of luck or just be the best!

Thanks for the advise given guys as on a 60 hour week this week and bad weather not had time to do it but will be looking into each thing that's been put on my days off and will update if it cures the issue or it keeps doin it

Well checking the car today after a blow from the exhaust I found the 5 month old brand new manifold has broke under the cat where its welded to the downpipe exhaust section and more than likely the culprit to the stalling issue as this would let cold or damp air in so its at the garage to be welded as not got a welder so will update once back on and tested to see if this sorts the problem but checking the plugs to to make sure these are OK as well

I doubt it would cause it to stall.

My old nissan had a snapped manifold but on one of the 4 to 1 downpipes (headers) all it did was make it limp when the crack opened... it never missfired as such.

My old stilo never stalled either with a snapped manicat downpipe... just sounded rubbish and then started to blow and use more fuel.

Keep us posted... replace your gearbox stabiliser mount and see how you go with a welded manicat and some more coil packs.

Well update exhaust welded back up and fitted all plugs clean and put back in and so far no stalling

Well update and its starting again so will put new plugs in to the stilo and does anyone know where the egr valves are on the engine as will clean it up to plus check the throttle position valve

Ahh OK that's a help as couldn't find it on any diagrams lol

So how comes fiat didn't add one as others I bought came with
