Hi

So I have determined I have the notorious airbag problem with my 2003 2.4 abarth, MES is showing passenger occupancy sensor so I have bought one of those bypass sensors as I have seen people have used them and had results, however mine has not gone away and I was just wondering (probably stupid here) do I have to use MES to reset the light after installing the passenger occupancy sensor bypass or should it go off on its own.

I'm a bit stuck here as until this is fixed I can't mot my pride and joy and really can't emphasise how much I don't want to get rid of it and buy another without problems me and this car have a bond that no matter what I can't shake ?

Any help will receive hero points ?

Should reset it self once you have fixed the problem... I used the old sensor mat and home solder with resistors bodge and it's been good for five years (fingers crossed)..

Any chance you could help me out with making one, explain how you did it or link to somewhere i can get a tutorial???

Is a real bodge.. Probably not recommend.. You have to make sure the ocs sensor reads as occupied.. Sorry probably should not have commented.. One too many ales.

Yeah I used nikiforos83 system and it has lasted.. Tucked works away in an old Ciggie packet for protection..

Airbag connections above rear wheel arch???? They on both sides or just one?

The connectors above the rear wheel arches are for the rear seat belt pre-tensioners, so there is one each side.
.

Yep, the pre-tensioners are part of the safety system and are directly linked to the airbag setup, all on the same ECU.

They work very similar to an airbag, using an explosive charge to rapidly reel in the seat belt and hold you in your seat in the event of an accident.

Had to replace my friends drivers seat airbag in his 2000 audi a3 1.8t sport.

He was plodding along and bang... he got pounded from the side then sucked into the seat... was funny looking back at the situation but could have been very dangerous.

The knock sensor on the under side of the offside are commen to failing or detecting a false impact... we had to change airbag in seat, re-stich the seat cover, replace his door card (plastic behind leather snapped) and then the airbag ecu module and seat belt tensioner.

Pain in the arse!
