My 2006 1.4 5door has developed a general front suspension rattle, especially on rough, pebbly tarmac at fairly low speeds. This disappears as soon as the footbrake is applied.
Normally I suspect drop links but these are less than a year old fitted by a dealer.
Why would braking stop the rattle? Any comments welcome.

Retaining clip for the brake pads on one side maybe broken or not secure and allowing the pads to rattle about? Then when you apply the footbrake the pads will tighten up onto the disc?
Or maybe the vibration from the road surface is such that when you brake thereby reducing speed the frequency (?) changes so that the offending part whatever it is stops rattling.......?

The retaining clip idea could be right, although they were OK last time I checked. In the distant past I think someone mentioned anti roll bar bushes but I can't see why braking would stop them rattling.

Think I've cracked this one. When I took the front offside wheel off I noticed that the ABS pipe was hanging loose. A garage had fitted a new drop link and hadn't routed the pipe correctly afterwards . I clipped it back into its retainers and the noise disappeared.
