hi
i am hard wiring a dash cam.could any one tell me which fuse would be best to tap into on the fuse box so that it turns on and off with the ignition

I'm going to assume that you know the current draw which is likely rather small. It depends where you're looking to mount it, I suppose.

If it were me I'd be looking to wire it off a stereo switched live (not all have them as they're CAN activated) or possibly off the cigarette lighter.

There is likely to be some switched live to the A/C controls too, so you've got plenty of wires to start having a look at.

One thing I would say, whatever you use as you're live feed make sure you put an inline fuse on it at the very bottom of the leg you use to power it with a nice small rated fuse in it. It's better to be safe.

If you get one of these piggy-back fuses;

You can plug this into the fuse holder for the sun-roof and fit a fuse appropriate to your device.

This fuse (#45?) is live for a few seconds after the ignition goes off.. (not sure how that's useful though... :D ) but more relevant, it's one of the few empty fuse sockets that has wiring/holder behind it (i.e. you can fit a fuse into it).

And if you have no sun-roof it means that you're not piggy-backing any of the other circuits, which is always handy.

I used fuse F51 in the dashboard fuse box for mine. It's an ignition switched supply for the tyre pressure monitoring system. Never seen or heard of any Stilos with that option fitted.

I connected a double USB socket to the fuse so it can power a dash camera and sat-nav without having to cut the USB plugs off.

cheers mate that's brilliant.
i'm thinking of using a piggy back fuse holder would that be ok?

My book says F51 is for the "Powered door mirrors control (movement, ideograph lighting)".

I only have 1 fuse slot that actually has the metal connector/fuse holder behind it. All the other empty slots are empty/unwired, so the fuse can't clip in to anything.

I guess the "live" fuse slots you have will depend on the model and spec' of your car. Mine is an Active Air but with manual rear windows and no sunroof (which account for the majority of my empty fuse slots).

Seems as though fuse positions changed throughout the life of the Stilo. The 2002 handbook that came with my 2003 car says F51 is for the TPMS. Just looked at a 2006 handbook which says it's for door mirrors, as you say.

My fuse box is fully populated, including the 6 spare fuses in the right column. Those 6 positions are the only ones that don't have any contacts in them.
