Hi

My Stilo's CD player (original Visteon unit) is in the habit of playing up. Sometimes it comes up with "CD Error ££", but most of the time it will just refuse to fully switch on - the lights will come on but nothing else. This will always happen in CD Mode and, when switched on and off, will always go back to Radio.

My bro has his MP3 player from his Schumi. No doubt the car will go soon (thats just his way), so I was wondering if i could swap the fronts - his is silver and i think it'll look awful and out-of-place in my 03 Dynamic.

Anyone got any ideas / thoughts? Ta

Oh this sounds so familiar. I think we have all had problems with this Cd changer unit - me included. I suffered from total freeze ups/intermittant operation and radio only. Fiat eventually gave me a new unit under warranty to cure those faults. One subsequent fault was down to a loose connection between the Cd changer and the head unit - mnight be worthing checking.

My car hasn't got a CD changer, it's the actual headunit CD thats playing up!

Done all the onboard tests but they pass :(

I just got a new stereo facia and put a standard cd/mp3 player in it, working great! :) looks not too bad as well

I had considered that, but I think the standard FIAT unit is superb!

All i want to do is have his stereo (a brand new FIAT stilo MP3 player) and put the front of my standard stereo on it, as his is the FIAT Stilo Sporting silver and mine is black (so the stereo would be the only silver item in the car!!!)

This is what it's doing, practically everytime you switch the ignition on (it always happens when the last time the unit was on it was playing a CD), and it hangs like this.(n)

The second photo was taken when it froze on saying "CD Play". I turned the unit off, and the message wouldn't go! Had to turn the engine off for it to disappear.

It's getting worse and worse, sometimes get "CD Error ££" - haven't had my phone to hand to take a piccy of that yet!

Ok, to answer my own thread, the facia panel can be changed :D.

Pinched the Feb 05 Silver MP3 unit out of the Schumi, and my bro changed over the facia panel and buttons; all the buttons are from the MP3 unit, all that has been carried over from my old unit is the black panel, so it looks like my old one.

Just plugged the old one back in, as I don't have the radio code for the new one, and it refuses to work at all for CD's now; comes up with "CD Error 25" :(

i had my stilo in to the garage like 3 times for the cd player.
I now have an Alpine head unit and an iPod adapter.. problem solved. (actually they solved the problem cos on the 3rd attempt they changed it for a new head unit and it's worked fine ever since.
