General Are they really that bad

Had mine 8 years, it was a 2002 plate and 15 years old when I sold it. Was used daily and never broke down.

JayEm - just out of interest wot engine you have in yours?

I had the 1.2l. Rock solid engine and gearbox, good 0-30mph with the short ranged 1st gear. Above which its a bit meh but it did like to be revved with its 16V head and good on the motorway with the 6 speed box.

Fuel consumption wasn't too good though, around town I only got about 35mpg on average as its still quite a heavy car to be pulled by such a small engine. No wonder they dropped it in favour of the 1.4.

Just to add to this thread. While i had been stuggling with the rad replacement last week in amongst everything else, i had used my Dad's car for the week and did just short if 500 miles in it. Its an 06 reg Ford Fusion 1.4 petrol with now 26k miles. Dont suppose the Fusion is the most exciting or cutting edge, but have to say that apart from being "tighter" than mine (with nearly 130k miles), it was miles behind the Stilo in its driving dynamics in every way.
No offence to lovers of the Fusion, which is no doubt a fine enough car, but just sayin'...... (particularly reference what i seem to remember at the time was a bit of a pasting which the Stilo got from the motor testing fraternity on its driving abilities).
