So guys i decided to use the mobile 1 new life oil, but where the hell is it going, I added a litre and was clearly at the top of the dipstick, 500 miles later, at the bottom or not getting a decent reading, so added another 750ml and still not showing on the dipstick, highly concerned...

When i put the dipstick in its showing only on the edge of the dip stick, like its rubbed when entering tube and pretty high up, but not seeing anything on the crosshatch bit??? And of course don't want to flood the engine with oil, so any advice???

To be safe: drain the oil and see how much comes out.

You do check the oil level with the engine off and sitting level for at least a minute, right?

Yes it's parked on pretty much level ground in our car park... Tried engine cold and 5 mins after a good run, always same result???

Ok thanks for that didn't have an issue before just this time, seems like the more I put in the less I get on the stick lmao, maybe other people can make some suggestions as well

Forgot to mention after a drive stick is well covered, so think the above may not apply

Hmmm, It's a long shot, but check the crank case ventilation... I've seen some weird issues caused by that, and it's always better to catch it now, than later when you blew a seal or gasket...

And that is lol??? Sorry might sound stupid but describe what I'm looking for

There is a hose that goes from somewhere low on the engine to the inlet tubing. This is to recirculate crank case fumes trough the engine, but if this plumbing is clogged or heavily restricted somewhere, the pressure in the crank case can build up when running (this can blow seals and gaskets), or cause a slight vacuum when the oil cools down (sucking the dipstick tube dry?)...

what grade of oil.. ?

if it's too thin.., it'll not stay in the engine..

I highly doubt the viscosity of the oil can cause such a dramatic oil leak/usage. Even if you'd chuck 0w30 in a car that needs 10w40, it would already had to have some serious leak/consumption issues to drop over a liter in just 500 miles.
It wouldn't be good for the engine and cause trouble over time, but not suddenly this brutal...

The reason I'm thinking crank case ventilation:
- it's a weird issue that makes the oil in the dipstick tube sit higher freshly after shutting the engine down than 5 minutes after (vacuum effect?)
- You tried new oil, additives in this oil could have loosened up some old sludge which now blocks the crank case breather plumbing (hose, filter, trap...).

2.4 20v and not sure when I purchased the car last month noticed a few days later dip stick dry, so added a litre then full, then noticed dry again, been adding 250ml at a time and it's on the stick but only on the sides, not the flat min/max section... I think it's drinking it for fun

seems thin,
what engine..??

how was oil consumption on previous oil fill..??

Can you point me in the right direction for the crankcase??? I'll have it checked tomorrow. Any images to go on

I don't know how your engine bay looks, but just follow the tubing between the airbox and engine, you'll find a smaller hose spliced in there, if you follow that and end up either at the valve cover or somewhere low on the engine block: bingo!

Loosing my head with this bloody thing, thought I know try add another litre today so that's 2l added in the past 7 days still not showing on the dipstick, started engine and checked with engine running quickly and dipstick full?????, turned engine off and checked straight away dipstick dry???

dump oil into a pan, then measure what's come out..,
simple and the best way to see what's actually in there..,

then refill with correct amount as per manual..;)
should be at top of dipstick.. here's hoping.
