General How about a servicing sticky?

Well, I can dig out my service invoices for all 3 years, with dates and dealership - BUT may also want to add perceived quality of service - I don't mind paying a bit more, if I get looked after properly.

Yeah my first year 3,000  mile service is due this month. How much should I expect to pay for this one guys ? I think a sticky would be a very good idea for this ;)

3,000 mile? Isn't there an option to do a low-mileage service?

Service sheets are here : https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=33957

Note the bottom one ;)
Thats the best part about working from home :D
Just gave Fiat in Salisbury a ring, they are calling back so I'll let you know the outcome. It's a pain in the butt having to pay Fiat for this stuff, any old plonker could do a low miliage service, even me :bang:

as long as they a VAT registered garage and use FIAT parts then any place can undertake work and not invalidate the warranty

mine was done at a local specialist, it saved me taking a day off to go to the 'local' dealers

it was a low milege service too 5.5k

Well I just phoned a local VAT registered garage and they told me £70 plus parts, which he said would just be an oil filter at that mileage. Fiat Olympians price with the oil filter was £164.

Will I be safe Warany wise, to take it to this garage ?

The guy said yes, as they will use Fiat approved parts. He even said there is now a legislation going through to allow the use of aftermarket parts because in some cases they are better than the originals.

I would presume it would be safe for the warranty!

My only issue would be any body computer updates through Examiner - I presume this is what Fiat dealerships have access to, not the independents. Maybe a techie on here will confirm.

Hmmm very good point mate, I didn't think about that. Like you say maybe a Techie will clear this up..

Spike192, Research Fiat............................I feel for you mate. I got my old Abarth Stilo from them and I can honestly say that they are without doubt the most incompetent, amateur bunch of individuals that I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have a complaint running at the moment through Fiat UK with them.

Do yourself a favour and find another dealer, believe me it will stop your hair growing grey prematurely!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, i would only go for the low mileage service at 1, 3, 5 years old etc, only because when the car is 2 years old for example you should have spark plugs but they are NEVER done on the low mileage schedule - even though they haven't done the mileage, they still are 2 years old and not platinum jobbies like on AR's.

Ideally you should only need to replace a pollen filter every 2 years, or 24k or as the smell dictates :).

Low mileage, 3 years old brake fluid/air filter, 5 years timing/aux belts and tensioners. Coolant is changed as strength dictates - if it ain't broke leave it the hell alone.

As for examiner updates - only done if there is a recall/update to be done and reset of the service reminder/check of inj.system when needed.

The rule is any VAT registered garage/service centre can service/repair your car as long as they use genuine Fiat parts and adhere to Fiat's repair procedures. Warranty issues only through dealer network and approved bodyshops.

Thanks for that (y)
So I can safely go to the none Fiat garage for my service and save myself a ton  Excellent news ;)

Personally I would never go to the main dealer for service work. I have not so on any of my nwer cars (51 Vectra now sold, 52 Stilo, current and 04 Vectra, current) Their prices are simply too high for the service you get. The parts can be bought (keep receipt / invoice) and go to any VAT registered to do the work to manufacturers schedule.
To be honest, I don't know why it has to be VAT registered, as any old fool can change the oil and filter. Ho Hum. Warranty cannot be affected, it is the law.

Furthermore, I do not know how the main stealers can quote their price and not laugh, as they must know you are being ripped off. I do understand though that some people are ignorant of the law, or simply want the comfort of mind that their car has been serviced by the main dealer. But they do pay extra for it. A service book with any garage stamp would not be any worse than a Fiat stamp IMO.

When I traded my last Vectra for my new Vectra, the sales guy asked if it had any service 'yes, but not main dealer' was my reply. He said he wasn't bothered if it was not main dealer, but didn't even look at the book. Just goes to show that the main dealer stamp is not worth more than any other stamp.

Why pay more??? I won't.

Well got the stilo serviced yesterday. 24,000 mile service.

Arnold Clark, kirkcaldy. £169.35 which i was pleased enough with, only £40 more than 12,000 service!

Also worth noting, 22,000 miles on the clock, still on original dunlop 15" tyres. I rotated them at 16,000 miles, so fronts still have 5mm and backs on 3mm! Not bad for a Stilo.
