Hi there I have a 1.2 16v active stilo (2003) and it has developed an issue...

A few weeks ago it started running a bit lumpy on idle literally bouncing from 0 to 1500 rpm every second.
It would start and then die again straight away, I first thought it may be blocked injectors so I bought some redex and it did seem to help a little (maybe placebo effect) but I still have the same issue.

Seems intermittent sometimes It will start and drive fine and other (mostly) times it will be lumpy and die..

It seems to do it most in 1st and reverse gear, for example if I am above 10mph then it will be fine but if I am stuck in traffic or at the lights then the idle will bounce or it will die altogether.

I have read a few posts but they all seem to suggest different things.

I have checked the oil and is no "mayo" an the runnning temporature seems to be fine, I have also recently had it serviced (4 months ago) and was running fine afterwards.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I am leaning towards thinking it is a fueling issue, but as the fuel filter is in the tank I haven't checked or replaced it yet, was also thinking it may be the throttle body? Am I on the right track or barking up the wrong tree?

Kind Regards

Andy

also back to basics... even though a service has just been done, could still be a faulty HT Lead/Plug. youll get a P030x DTC for a misfire if the ECU can figure out it has a miss. ive known the HT caps to blow through and ground on the head before now on 1.2 motors... in addition to that it could be an incorrect plug gap(should be aroun 0.7mm from memory) or even a faulty plug. rare but not unheard of.

should give you a few things to check and atleast confirm or deny a fault with spark generation

Erm...HT lead Richy? Don't all Stilo's have coil packs? In which case there won't be an HT lead, as the LT signal only gets boosted to HT in the coil at each plug. Maybe you mean the coil breaks down..?

forget my last post then... you're right... i was under the impression (for some reason) that the 1.2s were on leads rather than packs. Advice still applies for checking plug condition though...

everyday is a school day

When my 1.2 had two damaged coils it was fine on tick over but once driving the clocks went erractic and misfired like crazy
