Re: cruise control

Well if you get a FIAT stalk (only available as a complete £180 unit) then all you need is a new lower steering shroud. If you get the ALFA stalk (£35), you'll need to modify the new shroud. Just needs a bit of filing I believe . . .

Re: cruise control

right...i am digging this one up...!!

2day i (fiat garage) followed the instructions given i connected the the brown connector to the cruise control (from an alfa)..(mine is a 1.6 03 stilo)....they checked the brake an clutch pedals and said they are ok to fit the cruise control....

after we finished, SADLY NOTHING HAPPENS when playing with the cruise control.......!!!...they followed the wiring that rrope said....

any clues why???PLZZZZZZZZ help...:(

Re: cruise control

you seem like you've gone through the same sernario as me, unfortunetly i am not able to help.. But ive done the same on the brake and clutch pedals and still nothing and everything is wired up correct so im jus stumped really... ive given it a rest atm to get on with otha modifications!

Re: cruise control

i had a chat with an other stilo owner....

he said that all 03 and back stilos do have the ecu programmed for the cruise control but there is also a plate (the actual cruise control unit) that should connect to the brown connector...this costs about 270Euros....i don't know if that is true...

Rrope....did u actually make it work on a 1.6 stilo connecting just the brown connector to the cruise control stalk???

Re: cruise control

THE BLOODY THING FINALY WORKED......

(i am so happy i wanted to share it with you :) )

i wanna thank rrope...if it wasn't 4 his post, i wouldn't even think, to try it on!

( i folllowed the instructions on page 5 (brown connector)..Luckily my 03 1.6 had the apropriate swiches on the brake and cluch pedals)

Re: cruise control

Ah ha! :D

So face, what was the final step that made it work?

The other end of the brown connector goes to the Engine Node; without that your car isn't going anywhere!

I've checked the switches on ePER and there is no difference between Cruise and non-Cruise equipped vehicles!

Nothing was done on the car since yesterday...i' ve just checked the connectors for misplaced wires, and then MAGIC...!!!....really it is pretty straighforward...

searching in the fiat cds i discoverd these....the whole cruise control wiring diagram...hope it 'll help anyone that is still trying..!!

it clearly shows that the cruise signal initiates from M10 (control unit) and through D4(B)-brown connector [D4(A) is on M10] it ends at H7 (fiat or alfa stalk-it is exactly the same as rrope' already said:D )...!!!!

1.8 stilo check your connections again..(y)

Re: cruise control

This mod is one I'd like to do, and I think there's a good chance that my 04 plate 1.6 MW is predisposed to the fitting of cruise control, since it is offered as an optional extra ( I've yet to check this out ). My question is does fitting this affect the warranty in any way ?. TIA

Re: cruise control

Hey Jacko

It doesnt necessarily mean that yours is pre-disposed, I'm now thinking its a pre 03 made thing rather than ESP or options available. It shouldn't affect the warranty as it is all FIAT approved parts.

Best thing to do is look for the wiring!

Re: Cruise Control Installation

Hi

I just checked my 06 GP and it has the connector, looks good so far. :D My intention is to buy the Alfa stalk which is avbaible on a 48hr delivery at £35 from the local dealer.

You mentioned that the lower cowling would need modifying, assuming i do a good job should it look factory fit. Or can i buy a cowling with the mods already made?

Also how do i check if i have the clutch and brake switch?

Excellent guide though.

Cheers

Re: Cruise Control Installation

The cowling for the Stilo can be ordered with the hole for the cruise stalk already cut out, but since the Alfa stick is slightly different in shape, it will still need a small bit of filing to take it down to the correct size.

We'll see about brake light switch if you need it, but you should be fine :). Let me know how you get on!

Re: cruise control

This has now become the linked thread from the Stilo Guide section, for discussion and comments relating to retrofitting cruise control into a Stilo. Please DO NOT post in the guide from now on.

Thanks :)

Ok guys, looks like i'll be needing abit of help now, been havin some problems;
I bought the alfa stalk wich i fitted to te stearing column and conected to the connector that i already had behind my stearing wheel.
Unfortunately the cruise control doesn't work;

I've checked the connector behind the wheel and it's seems ok; all cables are connected to another (even though they're different colours because of the alfa fiat thing) so no problem there.

I looked in the manual to see if there are any fuses required, only found one which is in it's place and seems ok

Next i looked in the engine bay for the brown connector but can't actually find it. I unscrewed the fuse box and underneith i found a big connector wich to me looks just like the brown one but it's black; it's got 8 wire running into it and it's connected to another black connector with another 8 cables running into it.

I don't know what to do anymore so any help would be much apreciated.

Thanks again

Definitely not there? 99% sure the connector you need is brown on ALL Stilo's.Y You might need to remove the fusebox in order to find it.

I will have another good thorough look but i'm pretty sure it's not there; i'l also take some pics of the black connector 'cause i think it actually might be the same as the brown one.
I'll get back to you as soon as possible
(y)

I had another good look but still can't fined the brown connector. Here are some pics of the black connector (wich seems to be same as brown one).

If the brown connector is indeed the correct one and as tou can see it's already connected to another one, what else could the problem be?? What else can i look for or test?

Thank you for all you help(y)

Ok, i had a look down there and located the clutch switch wich has, as Stilo 1.8 said, got two wires coming out of it.

Now, i don't know what i'm suposed to be doing to them. I'd be very thankful if you could tell me exactly what needs to be done as i'm rather green on electrics.

Was this what resolved Stilo 1.8's problem??

thanks
