While driving around yesterday in the pissing rain I got the engine fault light & warning buzzer a couple of times combined with a temporary slight power loss - similar to a flat spot in a carburettered car. It only happened when the engine got revved a bit higher than normal, say if you're accelerating away from a junction.

I had this problem earlier in the year - usually after driving through a large puddle - and the garage supposedly replaced a sensor when I took it in to them.

Does anyone know what the cause is?

I can't remember what it was called but they said it was near the front passenger-side wheelarch so it gets soaked if you drive through a puddle.

Never had it happen before while just out driving in the rain though.

The car is still under warranty but I'd rather be able to tell them what to fix.

either overboost valve or air flow meter, always happens to mine whem it rains !!!
just get used to it

replaced both in the past, engine fault means get yourself home mode !!1

The fault is due to the overboost control valve being soaked and the vacuum cannot be controlled due to the filter getting blocked. Easy fix is to fit a new one up by the battery, have done loads and never had a car return for this fault.
