Hi Guys.

I am new to the Fiat Family.

I recently traded my Jeep Cherokee on a Stilo JTD, with 377000km on, with some minor issues....or so I thought. I didnt get any guarantee with the vehicle as my Jeep was also a very old model, and I got the Stilo for R30 000.

1. The car is smoking alot ( white smoke ) and have no power from get go, but picks up speed from just over 2200rpms. Still smoking. I suspected the turbo or a relevant problem, maybe the vacuum hoses. And so I found 2 vacuum lines just laying about, not connected to anything, and comes from it seems like a valve or something underneath the EGR valve. I found 2 spaces where I think they should go, but I am not to sure. ANY IDEAS?

2. The Preheat Fault keeps on coming up, as I have to preheat it about 4times before starting up, this morning it just decided not to start up at all. With the glowplug light flashing. ANY IDEAS on to resolve this problem?

3.The engine fault light stays on, I have disconnected the battery for 10minutes, but it still stays on. What could be the problem?

4. The ABS fault light stays on and the notification bleeps every now and then, I have tried to see if I could find a loose plug, but can't seem to find the problem. ANY IDEAS?

5. The boot opened before, but now I can't get it open, the glass door opens, but not the whole door, and it was also working when I got it, what could be the problem? And how do I get it open?

I have always liked these station wagons ( STILO ), Its got a very nice look to it, but at this moment I really feel like loading it on a Flat bed and take it back and try and get my very thirsty Jeep Back, but I don't want to go that route.

Please techs, help.

vac lines may well go to the vacuum reservoir under the egr somewhere never looked for it myself, if you give exact model or vin number I can pull up the circuit on eper and add pics.
basically vacuum created in vac pump at camshaft end, one pipe goes to tank I think .
from tank one pipe should connect to inlet manifold antishudder flap.
another should go down to the vnt / boost solenoid either down by the radiator bottom/airbox slampanel(follow turbo actuator pipe backwards to find it)(some may have been moved up to the battery area.
another to go to brake servo
could be t pieces so less pipes

for the glow plug /relay issue there are guides on here
like this

heres one to help find boost solenoid

heres a glow plug one

think about blanking egr to save any issues from that also, like this but using blank gaskets blocking flow

heres the vac tank looks same for all models ? except dpf cars have no valve and 1 less pipe
no dpf

heres the diagram for vnt / boost solenoid

look closely as pics are very faint in the background also of turbo and ? vac tank maybe ? looks like a air vent ,badly drawn.
heres the brake servo vac and inlet flap vac

And while you are doing all of the above put the battery on charge as the Stilo really does need a good healthy battery!

Thank you very much for all of the details you sent me, I am going to have a look at it.

Another huge problem I found after digging around, was the fuse box by the battery was full of what seems to be old rat urine and crap(n)(n).

I took the whole unit out, and saw that everything is corroded and rusted and green etc. I managed to take the whole unit apart after taking pictures of where the relays and Fuses should go. The box comes apart in 5 pieces. each board has a number of pins which slides into the next board above it and so it goes on. I cleaned the boards individually with acetone, as I had no other option. After drying it with a hairdryer, and putting it back together as it was, and connect it up, nothing comes on now. This is after I left everything since yesterday to dry out completly even after I hairdryed it. Now I am afraid I stuffed something up. If I connect the battery, only the clock appears as 0 on the dash, but nothing happens when I turn the key. Though the battery is showing just over 14Volts when I test it. I think its time to just replace the whole Fuse box and components as I suspect this being the original problem?

The vacuum hoses is weird. The one from the actuator on the turbo goes to the valve underneath the aircleaner. From there it comes out and goes to the top. I am still investigating and will keep you updated on what I found. But with all the info you have given me, I am sure I will get this sorted out. (y)
