Hi , I have a weird fault, when I put the air con on on my MW Dynamic I get cold air on the drivers side and hot air on the passenger side, can anyone help please

I cant help very well, but it sounds like the vent for the drivers side (the internal mechanism) might be broken or stuck, and so its not moving to allow cold air in. I am not 100% sure if its a little motor for that vehicle or manual pulley and rods, but if its a motor then you can see it from the drivers foot well looking up towards where the stereo is - you will see the black motor with a metal rod coming out of it. Reasonably easy to remove - those motors break eventually and so that side will stop working..

just a thought, hope it helps!

Clivvy's advice is heading in the right direction ;) if you remove the lower part of the glovebox (numerous Torx screws), you get access to three rectangular motors that operate the flaps. There is a fourth on the right (i.e. driver's) side.

Lots of information in this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/240001-climate-control-airflow-issue-broken-actuator.html - remember to try a search :)

The fault is either that the drive key has sheared off, or the potentiometer (variable resistor inside the motor, which signals to the ECU its position) has become unreliable. The carbon track can sometimes be resuscitated by cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. mk4 and mk5 Golfs use a very similar design of motor, as does the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

If you have the full version of MultiECUScan, you can connect to the climate control ECU and read the motor positions. When you change the heater controls, you can see if the motors/potentiometers are responding smoothly, or whether the readings are intermittent. It will probably also have a fault code logged, which will tell you which motor to check/repair/replace. Unplugging a motor produces another fault code for each motor - so you can try unplugging each one until you find the one whose name matches the previous fault code (hope that makes sense). Probably something like "air mix motor left" rather than "feet/chest motor", "defroster vent motor", or "air mix motor right".

Readings from the left and right mix motors are opposite - one is 0% at max heat and the other is 100% at max heat - that's because one is on the left side and one is on the right side of the heater box, so one rotates a flap anticlockwise for hot, and the other rotates the other flap clockwise for hot.

thanks guys, is there any connections in the engine bay? I had a top end rebuild in November haven't used the aircon recently so I might be clutching at straws just wondered if anything might have been disconnected and not reconnected every thing else is fine, I don't have access to the ECU scan

Hi guys I have managed to find time to look at this and one of the plastic drive couplings has sheered off, I bought one ready to fit, but before I do I thought I had better get some more advice. The motor continually steps on and off, does this mean it will need replacing too?

Ok I sprayed it with switch cleaner and ran it up and eventually it stopped. does it need setting up?
thanks in advance

You need to carry out the climate control self learn procedure. You can do it with Multiecuscan or manually as follows:

The AUTO and MONO buttons must be pressed simultaneously within 40 seconds of the ignition being turned to the ON position in order to active this procedure. A few seconds later a figure will appear on the display which will count down to indicate the time remaining before the start of the procedure. When the count down stops, release the AUTO and MONO buttons. Whilst the count down is taking place, the previous self-learning status is signalled on the display:

'1' flashes if the self-learning procedure failed
'0' indicates that the self-learning procedure was successful

thanks for that should this be done before or after reassembling.
