Hi All,

Owned my stilo abarth since the start of Jan and am very happy with it so far. Recently I've had a issue with the EML flashing. Plugged it in to a reader which revealed the problem to be a faulty coilpack in cylinder 1. Ordered a new coilpack but while waiting for it to turn up the EML started to stay on. The new coil pack is fitted (cleared all previous messages) but still getting the EML and this time it's an issue with cylinder 4.

Should the packs last the life of the engine or is there a certain mileage they get to where they all give out? At £45 a time I could do with a little bit of space between each one going wrong! Thanks.

Coil packs are basically smaller version of the old single Coil you used to have fitted to cars, they last as long as they last. One could last the lifetime of the car, one could fail after a short amount of use.

The 1.2 Stilo (my model) has only 2 coil packs, I have covered over 100,000miles now and never needed one. Although I've read that the 2 coil pack setup on the 1.2 has been known to have problems, looks like I got lucky (my car doesn't appear to have been a Friday build based on its reliability over the last 12 years).

usually if one coil pack goes the rest will follow... id advise throwing a full set on just for piece of mind.

you havent said what engine it is but the most common for coil pack failure is the 1.6. fiat part number is 46777286

prices start from around £20ea but the going rate for Fiat originals seems to be around £40ea

My experience was that after one failed others followed afterwards. Final one went about 5 miles, and about 10 minutes before I arrived at where I was due to trade in the car!. First two went at about 100k, the second at 130k and the last at 160k. Not bad really. Available from many factors such as GSF, ECP etc at prices much less than Fiat. Replace them all ?/!.
