I am thinking of getting a Stilo, but the power compared to my Uno Turbo is not comparable. :bang:

Is there anybody that did wild engin modifications on there Abarth Stilo 2.5?
Maybe added a turbo?

Nice site I may add (y)

Hello ECL ... and welcome to the forum (y)
There are a couple of people in Europe that have fitted turbos and supers to their Stilos... but there's nobody in SA that I would trust to do the conversion. Maybe alpine developments, but it would cost more to do the conversion than your Uno Turbo is worth (in Rand value that is.) To get the same sort of performance than you currently have in your UT... you will have to fork out a couple of Rands. Bear in mind the Uno is a small car that weighs next to nothing... you can't compare it to the Stilo. Although, that said, the Stilo is a great car with lots of newer technology fitted to it. Even if it's not as nippy as the UT, and not as cheap to modify... it still has good performance for it's price range.
If you do want to venture off the normally aspirated path, I would rather fit a super to the Abarth as the engine takes up a lot of space in the engine bay, and you will have to do a lot of work to fit a turbo.
IMO it's easier to buy a car that comes with a turbo as standard than to fit a turbo to a car that doesn't come with one. Just too much hassles.
(like I siad... just my opinion... some people might disagree with me.)

Yeah there is an Abarth owner in the FF who has a Novitec supercharger fitted - "Type R Killer" is his signature. Just can't recall his name at the moment. Would be interested if he posted more info about the kit, fitting and performance. I know of at least one other Abarth owner who is thinking of going that route. I know one thing though - it's very expensive! :D

One thing to note... if it's very expensive over there... it's very expensive X 11.6 over here (exchange rate) making it unaffordable for us :p

@ SLOVAC - Have a look on the Novitec website and you'll see their price in either Euros or US $ - expensive whichever you use. There is a kit for the Abarth - wait 'til I win the Lottery lol. :D

Thank you Slovac. Gentlemen my dream is a Stilo with power second to none.
I had a look at the Novitec system and must be honest that it is not impresive for the price. 125kw to 174kw is only 49kw extra.

I also send Clovertech an e-mail. So I will wait for there reply. Thanks Overload.

There is a guy in SA that can do the conversion for me but if I can get more info from somebody that did it already I can save some time trouble and money.

Also thought about the charger route but they are expensive and not to many people have experience in SA on them.

The idea is about 300kw on the wheels for an everyday car.

300kw = 410bhp! That would be pretty undrivable on normal roads. I would suggest blueprinting the engine first as this will make the engine breathe properly & if done by someone who really knows what they are doing you could see upwards of 250bhp! (y) Fitting a turbo or a supercharger is not that difficult :chin: But there are pro's & cons to both units, a turbocharger is more efficient & can be tuned to give silly amounts of power but is very expensive to convert an NA engine to mainly because you would really need to run a parralel ECU or even a new ECU which could cost half of what the whole conversion would be! (n) A supercharger is the cheaper option & can be tuned to produce similar amounts of power & you'll also get more grunt as it's driven by the engine, but that's the downside because it actually robs horsepower from the engine to power it, it also costs more to run in petrol. (n) I would say start with a remap/chip, a proper stainless exhaust & a sealed induction kit! Should see 200bhp which wouldn't be slow! (y)

The sort of performance you are talking about compares well to an A3 I know about here in Cape Town. The A3 is currently being featured @ zoopedup:
http://www.zoopedup.com/data/pages/feature128.html

Ruan's A3 pushes out 240Kw with a turbo boosting at 1.5bar, and that is at the flywheel. That is also with racing fuel... not the standard crap we get at the pumps.

Personally I think 300Kw is a bit optimistic as it's more than double what the abarth pushes out standard. Not saying it can't be done... but it will cost a lot of money and headache to achieve.

I've met the owner of the A3 in that feature, and he is forever fixing something on the car.

I think that Novitec's kit is the safe way (the one that I would choose). Installing a turbo, with the same amount of money (about 5.500€) you could raise your car's power more than 300-350BHP. But then, you should be always carefull that your engine rolls smoothly...

Go for Novitec's kit!

PS: a parallel ECU cost about 500€ (the one that I use...)

Does the Stilo use the same head as the 20v turbo coupe? Is it not the same engin but n/a?

The nice thing with turbo is that you can have differnt boost levels from the cockpit. Like you said I would need to run an extra managment system cause I dont think the current one will keep up with the changes.

Please explaine "rolls smoothly"

Would you change your turbo conversion for the Novitec kit? :chin:

If there was a kit form Novitec for the 1.6 Stilo...

"Rolls smoothly": I have a custom turbo kit but I am not pushing my car very much (turbo works only with 0,7bars!!). As you are saying, you are looking for a lot of extra power, that means a lot of custom things that have to replace the original ones, and a motor that is goining to be pushed to its limits (1.8~2.0bars maybe). In that case you must always check that your oil is in good condition, your turbine has no cracks, all your collars are tight, pistons in good shape also, temperature in normal levels etc...

As well, I can see that you live in Johanesbourg, where I believe it is quite hot during summer (warmer than Greece!). And as you own an Uno turbo, you are aware that turbo's suffer during summer because of the increased ambient temperature. So if you go for the big bucks... sorry big BHPs... :p , you should be more carefull during summer. ;)

The intension would be to add an Iveco Turbo Daily intercooler maybe bigger if required.
Boost would be around 1.4 to 1.6bar.

Thanks for the information.

PS your car looks awesome. (y)
