My filler cap fell off last week ( a common Stilo problem ) & car is out of warrenty.

So i got a spare part ( £17 ) & sprayed it up but i can't work out how to fit it ( i need to remove the part of the filler cap thats still fitted & fit the new part ). Im presuming that i've got to somehow get behind the unit it & release the screws ??

As anyone got any ideas how to access this ???

Pease Help !!!!

First time I have seen this problem. Probably tempting fate but it hasn't happened to me. What exactly has fallen off - is it the bayonet lock thingy on top of the filler spout that the locking cap locks onto?

I'm sure a techie will pick this up but in the meantime..........do you not have access via the boot? Below the parcel shelf there should be a flap in the bulhead covering that you lift up to reveal the wire cable that is used to release the fuel flap in the event of a power/lock failure. I would have thought that access to the pipe should somewhere in that region? Hopefully? Don't shoot me if I'm wrong please - just trying to help. :D

It wasn't my Stilo you saw as the petrol filler cap is now superglued - it's just a bit embaressing at Petrol Stations as it always falls off when i open it.

The bit that's snapped off is just the plate but the new part contains the 'hinge bit' as well & disapears into the back somewhere.

I've tried the compartment in the boot but i can't get to the screws. I'm guessing that it could be accessed by removing the felt under the wheel arch ??

Thanks for all your help so far guys !!!!

When I got home I checked inside the boot and no you can't get inside the double bulkhead where the back of the filler is. Yeah I reckon you'll have to go via the wheel arch. Don't make things easy do they!

The cap has the lever part that is bolted to the car.

The arch liner is quite manuoverable and you can squeeze your hand past the bodywork and the liner and with a spanner (10 mm i think) loosen the nuts and undo fully by hand - done it before and took me 10 mins to fit.
