The Case of the Spurious Curious Alarm

Well Watson what's afoot today?

Morning Sherlock. Our new Client James Abarth Esquire reports that his Abarth emanated a most curious sound from behind the dashboard yesterday.

Most interesting Watson. Where did this occur?

Mr Abarth was bombing round the M25 Holmes.

I see. What precisely happened?

Mr Abarth reports that he was proceeding in an anticlockwise direction at a very fast gallop when a der duh der duh der duh sound commenced from the depths of the dashboard just behind the instrument binnacle. Mr Abarth further reports that no alarm lights or warnings were apparent, engine temperature was normal and the vehicle behaved entirely normally. In an effort to isolate the occurence our illustrious Client switched off his SatNav and laser detector but the sound persisted.

Hmmm. Watson - I must say that our Client was justified in becoming alarmed by this most curious affair. Did Mr Abarth attempt any remedial action?

Most definately Holmes -most definately. He reigned in his Abarth and headed her direct to the services at Lakeside. Upon arrival he alighted at once and checked all pertinant levels and devices. He was delighted to report in particular that his oil level was correct as was the engine coolant. There appeared to no leaks of any nature, no emanations of smoke or fumes and no disconnections of any nature. As a final precaution he recommenced ignition and reports that the fan belt was unbroken.

Capital Watson - capital. Our Client proceeded correctly. I would ask though - did the der duh sound manifest itself again?

Absolutely not Holmes. Most curious what?

Yes Watson - most curious. A three pipe problem I believe..................

After due consideration Watson I have come to the unalterable conclusion
that when one has discounted the possible then only the impossible remains. Therefore kindly report to our illustrious Client that the alarm sound was not only curious but also spurious. As for the future Mr Abarth should report the occurence to his Dealer upon the occasion of the two year service in the first week of November next. Whereupon the good Technician there will be able to connect the Examiner to the Abarth on board computer and discover all.

Good Lord Holmes - we are superflorous.

Quite - Watson. Where's my violin?

Re: The Case of the Spurious Curious Alarm

I have had this strange sound once or twice before!!! sounded like it was comming from behind instrument panel as well!!! On both occasions my Wipers had been on, or recently been on!!! I put it down to that and like you say, I cant get the noise to do it again and it has now dissappeared. I put it down to part of the cars character!!!

Great post by the way!!!!
