Re: Upgrading Tweeters

Right, I've renamed this thread and revived it as all 4 speakers and 2 tweeters are now installed . . . and Oh Wow!

When I put the MP3 player from the Schumi in my car it didn't sound that much better seeing as it was supposed to be higher power. Then the 2 front BOSE OEM speakers went in; the Stereo would cut power to the back and force it out the front, which would sound awful when loud.

Now the rears are done, the Stereo sounds like it used to . . . but just vastly improved. The Bass is phenominal and the quality is superb, all for under £50 and fully original stuff, so no messing around with wiring.

I'd say it was worth doing; I'm not putting a sub/amp in, that'll be it for me. I'm so pleased I just wanna go cruise with You Spin Me Right Round blasting out!! :D

Part numbers and approximate prices (may be a year out of date) are below:
FRONT TWEETERS: 46772452 (£8.50) x2
FRONT SPEAKERS: 46754228 (£10) x2
REAR 5DR SPEAKERS: 46772452 (£10) x2
REAR 3DR DRIVERS SIDE SPEAKER: 46806815 (£15) x1
REAR 3DR PASSENGER SIDE SPEAKER: 46772454 (£15) x1

Part numbers are there. Yeah they use same wiring and same fixing points so no drilling required . . . not too much of a problem with the fronts, but with the backs, made it far far easier as the rear card only has to be unpopped and not completely removed; this meant that only the seat bases had to be removed so we did it all within an hour! Really does sound good.

What stereo are you running Joe?

Just to let you know, I've called Research Fiat about those part codes, and apparently, they are the standard speakers...... not Bose. They said they did not have any Bose or speaker upgrades listed for the Stilo!!!

Just to confirm, if you look on the FIAT Stilo Service CD (either DTE or eLEARN), it makes reference to "BOSE HI-FI Upgrade", and was in the original press release packs (y)

I took a mate out lunchtime friday for a spin and he got excited when Frankie's Pleasuredome came on the stereo. He said even though he has had the album for years he never knew that there were notes/sounds on the track until he heard it in my Stilo. If you gotta do one thing with a Stilo you gotta change all the speakers/tweeters.

Running a non standard Alpine 4x50 and got 2x JL Audio 12w0 subs

Jees . . . bit different to the standard setup then!

Well its up to you, they work superbly with the upgraded MP3 player (Original Stilo), you can probably get better but I like the fact these are purely original ones and simple to fit etc . . .

Have you done yours Bozzy? What setup have you got running?

Speakers are Clarion SRS 1725 (180W) all around with paired tweeters
Pioneer DEHP6700 Head unit with Pioneer Ipod adaptor
2 X Pioneers 10" subs
1 X 1000w (RMS) mono amp
1 x Pioneer GM4000 4 channel amp.

Re: Upgrading Tweeters

Bloomin 'eck! I do think the Stilo has got excellent acoustics, although the 5dr does seem better than the 3!

Re: Upgrading Tweeters

To be honest I was always content with the OEM setup in the Stilo, but when the MP3 player was put in from my bro's old Schumi it didn't sound as good; like it could do more but wasn't due to my speakers. Having heard it in the Schumi I decided to upgrade the speakers on mine with a possible sub/amp installation too; now I've done it I'm happy with what I've got, it's loud and bassy, and that's enough for me :D

Re: Speakers

do anyone elses tweeters make a clicking sound? i'm happy with the normal sound but i noticed on some tracks it clicks a bit, not noticed since i changed to audio cd's and left the nav cd in permanently (maybe its something to do with my mp3s?)

You'll have to mod the wiring a bit, and you need to know the sizes of them. From what I can remember, Stilo fronts are 17cm (I may be wrong so don't quote me!). Rear ones are 16.5cm (see Rob's guide in the "Guides" section).

Oh and the tweeters look to be FIAT specific; might as well get the OEM Bose ones as they are cheap and so much easier to fit than trying to get some other ones on there.

They didn't . . . they were fitted with an active sub with the "Hi-Fi" Option (option 718) spec'd from the factory. I've out the Bose speakers in, but not installed the active Sub . . . don't think I'll bother either.

Are car speakers all the same? Eg front stilo speakers can be swapped for front Sony speakers?

Can anyone point me to a good website for buying them?

6.5" / 165mm all around, you can quote me on that.

With the fronts it's just a case of cutting off the spider of the original speaker and mounting the new one (fits perfectly) onto it.

E-bay gets a variety of good speakers, do a search and post some links if your'e unsure. See my tweeters below for idea's.

Re: Speakers

Thing is i'm a bugger for mods; I only do OEM mods. Chances of me getting a sub from a banged up 3dr is so unlikely, and then all the wiring involved . . .

I must admit, its putting me off CN+ more and more, when Ian (bro) put CN+ in his Schumi you could hear the decrease in sound quality; was quite noticable.

Re: Speakers

Ive gota say i had the MP3 OEM unit in my car before i ripped it out and i was impressed with the quality of it being a standard(ish) optinal extra unit really. Only thing ive got left to do is the fronts, i was looking for some good comps.

Would be good to hear someone with the BOSE setup if anyone is going to stanford hall how has em?

EDIT: if your looking for aftermarket stuff, ive used these companies for various bits and found them very good!

Re: Speakers

Well Rob if I was going (and I'm getting more and more tempted everyday) you can have the keys to my baby; bear in mind I haven't got the sub/amp, just the speakers.

Apparently the MP3 unit from the Schumi (and X-Box I believe) was upgraded around 04 and became higher powered; the tint of orange on the display definitely changed as did the dashboard (went a paler orange). Local dealer may have been having me on though.

Re: Speakers

Rich,

Do they do a sup amp for 3dr stilo, I have a punto 3dr and sound in that is great (Very Bassy)(Fitted with Standard Fiat sub) compared to my stilo which is very tinny, Ive tried the same head unit in both cars just for compaison and the punto sound is awesome compared to stilo.

If so do you have part no and cost for sub for stilo. Or do these bose speakers make a huge difference where base is concerned.

Cheers

Re: Speakers

Hey Kev

Fitting the original speakers has made a difference in my opinion, the bass is much more "bassier" if that makes sense, sounds far deeper with more substance.

As for the OEM active sub, the FIAT price is £152 (new part number is 735379137). God only knows how it's mounted, but I'm sure anybody with a brain could work it out. The wiring harness for it is £144! From what I recall when we took the Schumi to bits the wiring sends all speaker feeds from the Stereo down to the sub, then returns them back again (also has the sub signal feed to go into the stereo). Then you need to cut your carpet (I'd personally get a new one), so you can see the price is starting to sky-rocket up.

Fitting the OEM Bose speakers is not too difficult and much cheaper!

Re: Speakers

Rich

Thanks a lot for the info, youre right it is expensive, think ill get the complete bose speakers like what youve done.

Once i get and fit them ill let you all Know

Cheers
