Hi all,

Have checked through the forums and there seems to be a lack of info on mods specific to the 1.8. I know they cant (so Im told) be remapped (or can they??) but what can I do to increase power?? (Im a complete technophobe when it comes to cars so please be gentle!) Ive heard of these replacement air filters etc and exhausts but is it really worth it?? What would anyone recommend?

Also, what other mods/ tuning can anyone recommend?? (Sensible answers only please) :D

Cheers
Steve

Welcome to the forum!! (y)

The general performance mods done on a Stilo are (as you mentioned), another air-filter, another exhaust and a remap. All of this done on a petrol engine gives about 20BHP (so I am told by the others.)
People also lower their cars and put kits on them...

I think the person that will be able to tell you if your car can be remapped would be either Stu or BenR...

The 1.8 can't be remapped! AFAIK...

As for 20bhp+ gain, this is based on the 2.4 (y)

Why not try and put a Supersprint, or similar on it? Plus airfilter! Oh, and a strutbrace :D

I believe superchips do a chip for the 1.8 bravo which I believe is the same engine! (y) www.superchips.co.uk Also a BMC carbon dynamic airbox will also give you a big increase specially in top end torque combined with a decent exhaust, I have a supersprint on mine, should give you a bit more welly! ;) You could always have the engine blueprinted or turbocharged! (y)

You can start with Induction kit (bmc cda), cat back exhaust system as well as a replacement manifold available from supersprint, but not 'street' legal, that plus decent fuel(98ron+) should give decent results

Hey, you don't live all that far away from me! (y)

Have a look at the links in my sig, from what I've been told, the 1.6 and 1.8 have the same air intake pipe so I could get a Pipercross induction kit for yours! :D

Thanks for all the great replies so far people.... Its been a great help for a complete car technophobe! (y)

Hey you can now get the still 1.8 remapped! Avon are doing a remap for the 1.8 witch adds 14BHP!!! If you get the gsr air intake kit witch adds 10+bhp and then a nice exhaust witch you should get between 5-10bhp the gains in power are pretty good you could even end up running somewhere never 160bhp not for 1.8 with any turbo I think
