I was at my friendly neighbourhood Fiat dealer this morning and found out that Fiat now offer the Schumacher GP Kit as a factory fit option on the Abarth too! If you ask me, the Schumacher version should had been an Abarth in the first place - is this change of heart is down to public demand? (okay, maybe not :D )

Anyway, as the GP kit uses Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks, I asked them if it would affect my warranty if I had these fitted as a personal modification. They said that it won't affect the warranty if a Fiat dealer does the installation. So, I asked how much and they quoted about £1000 all in!

Oh, and they were insistent that just fitting the springs without the shocks is a bad idea. Mmmm?

Thats because they are thinking "Cha-Ching!!!" Hmmm, 1k or £150???

I had no warranty probs following my lowering, and havn't heard of anyone else having problems either...It would only be if something directly relating to the suspension broke...Just go for it!!! :D

I presume they mean the warranty on the springs and shocks themselves - get them done elsewhere [like the majority of us have done], and all this means is that the warranty won't cover any potential claim relating to the springs/shocks...

I have had many warranty claims on mine go through, no questions asked, even with Eibachs and CDA.

Sorry, I meant that I was enquiring whether or not Fiat would get arsey and void the entire warranty. To clarify, if Fiat do the work, they cover the entire car. Otherwise, any mods are not covered by Fiat - which is fair enough.

...just concerned that they'd disown my car because I've been tinkering.

...looks like a visit to Nige is in order! (y)

Hi Neil,

I was quoted around £1100 for the GP kit plus £70 per hour fitting + VAT! If you want it I have the brochure or maybe I should scan and post it. I don't know what exhaust they use though. It looks similar to the Supersprint but nowhere near the same build quality.

Did that include the 18" wheels/tyres too? It's not a bad price if these are included too!

Thanks for the brochure offer but I'm not interested in the entire package - I'm just going to get the springs and go for the ECU, CDA and exhaust from Angel. But, I'm going to wait till you've had yours done first so you can boast how amazing your car feels! :D (y)

Quite! I don't think many people are taking that up although when I was in the Dealership the Parts Manager announced that he had just taken a firm order. Not suprisingly he was smiling.

I'll have to check the brochure tonight Neil but I have the feeling it was the whole caboodle ie the Oz 18"s tyres s/s exhaust back box Eibachs and Bilsteins. I got right underneath the car and took a close up of the exhaust back box. I posted a photo of that some while back in the Schumacher thread - the Supersprint seems be a better build quality altogether.

Bear in mind mate that mine isn't being done until 29 November! Can your credit card wait that long? ;) I won't be boasting Neil - just enjoying it (I hope). :D

Oz 18s' on their own with good tyres would set you back about £1000 so if that was the price then thats amazing.

That's what I'm thinking. Might need to ring up the dealer and double check - remember, this morning the dealer quoted me a grand for the springs and shocks only!

As always, thanks Ben! Hand on heart, you are truly a star of this forum! (y)

Give this man some rep, NOW!

thats a high labour charge. the average is around £35 + VAT....really depends where ur from. i think it only voids urs warrenty for suspension but nothing like engine will be affected

Well I'm somewhat gob-smacked this morning. Rang up my Dealer yesterday and asked for a quote for the GP kit. Different parts guy this time who hadn't heard of the kit. Said he would Fiat Auto in Slough to check. Spoke to him again in the afternoon - check this out - GP kit not available for another month and when it is it will be£2500 plus fitting!

This does NOT include the tyres!

Look at the GP brochure underneath. Very badly worded if the tyres are not inc. Reading the text under the Banner "Stilo GP Kit" I assumed naturally that the kit inc the Conti tyres. However the contradictory summary at the foot of page does not mention the tyres. Really good marketing.

I'm in the process of ringing round now.

FIAT Nottm have quoted (Parts only):
Wheels: £881
Tyres: £606
Springs/Spings: £782
Exhaust: Said is was a tailpipe finisher only???
TOTAL: £2269 (+ exhaust and fitting)

FIAT Derby have quoted (Parts only)
Wheels: £898
Tyres: £619
Springs/Shocks: £799
Exhaust: £280 (backbox)
TOTAL: £2596 (+fitting)

The guy at Derby said that he'd be able to arrange a discount but even so, I doubt they're selling many at this price!?

I'm gonna have a hunt round on the web tonight and see what's the best price I can find going 3rd party.

I'll keep you posted! :D

Neil - log onto Motorsportworld.co.uk - found them to be the cheapest. Just off the A74 below Glasgow- mail order only though. I haven't got the paperwork with me but from memory the total figures were:

Abarth only

Eibachs
BMC CDA
Supersprint s/s cat back system (same as Ben R)
Aprox £812.00 parts only - fitting extra

Plus Remap from Nige at £300

Total £1130 inc £17.60 del charge. Bit more like it eh?

See my PM
