Hi all

Have any of you installed an amp and sub in your stilo?

If yes, did you manage to find an easy way of getting the power cable from the engine bay into the interior? I've had a look and cannot see an easy route.

Thanks for any help.

Mike

I thought about doing this but chickened out as I didn't want to start removing the dashboard and/or lifting carpet to route the cables. I got enough grief from the missus when she saw the door trims on the floor and not on the door, where she expected them. :I

as the stilo is avilable with a sub box in the left side of the boot would it be pre wired in the factor
would it be a matter of find the wiring .

i would think that went someone orders the sub they wouldnt
wire the hole thing from the start.
they would just plug it into the wiring thats already there

i think the car is wire for all the exters it can have and they plug it in one end and put the fuse in the other end.

or use a high gain sub, get power form the 12v socket in the boot and high gain feed from the back speakers.

Where in the boot of the Stilo is the 12v socket? Haven't noticed one in my Dynamic yet?
Also, I didn't think it was a good idea to run a amp from something like a 12v socket and should be wired direct from the main battery?

Can anyone clarify this?

Cheers

I don't have the sub in mine, I have six speakers though but I would think it likely that the wiring would be there as part of the wireing loom.
I can't see them making too many looms and as some have the sub and some don't on the same models it seems plausable.
Anyone on the forum might have access to the Technical CD might be able to look it up.
I have the 12v socket in the boot but not everyone has it.
It should be good for about 10 amps.
Best way is to run it from a spare fuse position. if there is one, or provide another auxilary fuse box. You should also include a fuse in the lead to the sub. it may also need a relay if it is a high power sub.
Very often people keep adding all these extras without cosidering the size of the battery and the alternator ouput.

The socket is under the parcel shelf on the left side (nearside) of the car.

i have installed two 12" pioneers, wiht a Blaunpukt Burning Desire amp... i drove a "4" wire form the battery through the fuse area behind that little compartment on the right of the steering wheel, down through the door sills, into the rear...
i dont know if this helpos, but thats how i did it...

GOOD FROM FAR.... but....
FAR FROM GOOD!!!!

running two subs in mine ran the cable from the battery straight back, where you will find a grommit, bit of a pain in the arse and takes ages might be best to take it to your local car hi-fi shop, good luck.[8D]

Does anyone have any pics of where to route the 12v cable from the battery cos I can't find any gromits to route the cable through[V] There's not allot of room under the bonnet of the 1.8 so am a bit stuck at the mo :( If anyone has any pics please send them to me or post them up here if poss.....missing my sub big time!:(

After numerous attempts to route the 12v cable from the battery through the engine bay with no such luck am now looking at alternative methods thus have two questions:

1. Can I run the power for the amp off the 12v supply to the head unit (The head units fuse is 10amps and the Amp's fuse is 15amps)?
2. Can I split the 12v supply to the fuse box to power the amp from there if the head unit method isn't a good idea?

Cheers

Latter option is the prefered method,
Split the 12v supply nad sub fuse it.

Cheers Ham:) referring to your previous post, if I run the 12v cable from a spare fuse position (As there's lots of spare slots) how would I go about connecting the cable to the fuse slot, would I simply plug the cable in if I connected a spade connector to the cable or would I have to connect to the rear of the fuse box? The 12v cable has a built in 15amp fuse so that should be ok?

Cheers

1) NO, DON'T DO IT!!!
The power cable to your stereo can simply not handle the power of an amp, even if it's only a small amp. You'll blow your fuse in the fusebox anyway.

2) Might work but don't forget that the car's electrical loom isn't initially made to run ALL the electricals (rear demister, blower heater, headlights etc.) plus another 15amps of power required by your amp.

Don't forget that when wiring up an amp, the fuse in the positive wire, the fuse must ideally be WITHIN 1 metre of the battery. The best thing to do is have a good long look in daytime for a way from the engine compartment into the cabin and lay your positive feed through that.
If you have any q's, drop me an "e".
Danny.

If the amplifier has a 15amp fuse, it doesn't mean it actually uses 15amps. Even with a subwoofer the the average current should be only couple of amps. Installing a condensator helps dampening the spikes.

There is easy route for cable, I have used it ! I'll take some pics when I have free time :)

Probably not, but it will certainly use 2/3rds of the fuse rating. I have 2 amps in mine, one rated at 40amps and the other at 60amps, and after checking with a digital multimeter, the 600w amplifier rated at 40amps, draws 31.6amps at about 80% max volume and the 1000w amplifier, rated at 60amps, draws 48.1amps at the same volume level.
