I have a small problem with the gearbox in my multijet.
In 6th gear the gear lever shakes alot (mainly between 1000 rpm to 3000 rpm) when driving. It doesn't do this in any other gear.

I was wondering if any other owner of a multijet has the same problem (shaking gear lever in 6th gear)?

Because i just got a call from my dealer (they are looking at the problem today) saying that a tech. specialist from Fiat DK has looked at it and said that there was nothing wrong!! The mechaninc at the dealer thinks it's a problem with the 6th gear and he want's to change it but Fiat DK is now refusing that (the spec. is checking to see if it happens in an Alfa 147 multijet thay have and he'll call the dealer later today).

Don't think may UK folk will be able to help, other than speculation, don't think any model other than the 1.2/1.4 currently comes with a 6 speed box.

Could it be that your labouring the engine though? I mean 1000rpm in 6th gear, even in a Diesel it can't be pulling that hard? I assume most power will start to come in around 1500rpm upwards, but if the engine is already struggling in too low a gear it might just continue to shake the gear lever.... mind you i'm speculting too.

My multijet gearbox works perfectly in 6th gear; there might be some vibartion under 1500revs but no different to what you might get in any other gear. Above 1500 it's great, never seen a car that can accelerate properly in 6th gear at 90kph!

Tell Fiat DK that it's not working properly and that you've tried somebody elses car and it doesn't do it at all, give them hell or the'll try to wriggle out of it!!

Bets of luck

Thanks for the reply. I'm also sure that something is wrong with the gearbox.

Speaking of accelerating in 6th; i was driving home from the summer meeting in fiat club denmark on sunday. We were a few fiat's traveling together incl. a uno turbo (i know it doesn't have as many bhp or torque but then again it weighs a lot less) and we were driving at about 120 km/h when we were alongside each other and floored it and i just pulled away (he had to shift down and still couldn't catch me). :D

The thing is it doesn't do it in 1st to 5th gear (even at 1000 rpm). I can drive along in 5th at 1000 rpm and accelerate (there isn't much acceleration until 1500 rpm but still) without the gear lever shaking. And it still as much tourque at 1000 rpm as a 1,6 has as max tourque.
And i don't normally drive along at 1000 rpm - the acceleration is too slow :D

A little update:
Fiat DK finally admitted that something is wrong with my gearbox (or something attached to it).
The dealer got the car in yesterday morning and i was supposed to get the car back this afternoon, but it seems they didn't get all the parts they needed, so they need to keep it till monday afternoon.
That's a bit of a problem as i need to go to work on monday, so i got a loaner car.........a Doblo 1.3 Multijet.
Not the best car in the world.......but at least it's a hundred times better than the last loaner i got, which was a Suzuki Ignis (you have look very hard to find a worse car than an Ignis) :bang:

To bad they don't have a Stilo loaner car.... :(

I think dealers should always lend you better cars than you've actally got; my dad's got a 2.0 Jaguar X-type (it's a badged mondeo basicly) and when he took his in to get some work done adn got lent a great S-Type 2.7D (207bhp) and he loved it so much that he was thinking of trying to by this loaner off them (can't afford a new one) buy you get the point, give someone wit a Stilo an Abarth and they'll surely start thinking about buying one!!!!

Only problem is that you would have only half the number of loan cars, as abarths are twice the price of puntos. (n)

Well the piont is that people like theese cars so much that they buy theese loaners for a price slightly lower than the original price so in the end tha dealers would have mre money to buy more and better loaners!!!!! (y)

Don't really listen to me 'cause i'm probably talking absolute crap, i know nothing about runing a buisness!!!!

An update:

Just got my car back from the dealer...........and they fixed it!!!!!!!!!!(y)

They changed the 6th gear (and something called a highgear axle - don't know if it's called that in english) and the gear lever is now perfectly still. :D

A little update.

The gearbox started playing up again (same thing - the gearlever shakes in 6th gear)), so i took into my dealer and they looked at it and agreed that the problem is back. :(
They then contacted Fiat DK and i got an answer today: I get a new gearbox on june 9th. (y)
