Hello

I have asked this question in the car care section but thought i'd also ask here.

I've just had cream/beige leather seats fitted in my Stilo to replace the cloth ones. The seats and door card leather are in good condition but just need a good clean. I've been thinking of getting Autoglym leather cleaner and the balm. However i have seen some products like Turtlewax and Meguiars that is a 2 in 1 type product, cleans and protects in one application. I've read about white chalk marks being left sometimes after cleaning and i want to avoid this. I'm after some advice from anyone here who has lighter coloured leather and what products they use or have experience with.

Thanks
Phil

the autoglym stuff is very good, I've used it for years on my old cars, i had a mondeo and a range rover both with cream leather and it does a very good job

I still use it on our mini which has black leather.

white 'chalk' marks tend to be from using too much of the balm it drys and leaves a chalky residue but it brushes off.

i wouldn't use an all in one, if you think about it you want something strong enough to remove dirt and something that will soak into and condition and nourish the leather, you don't want your leather seats absorbing harsh chemical cleaners which may break the leather down over time, and you don't want to lessen the effects of the cleaning agents by diluting them down
in addition to that the treating after cleaning will help remove any chemical cleaning agents left on the seats

so even if you're not using autoglym i'd still recommend separate products.

also because you can't dye leather light colours it tends to be effectively painted so anything too harsh will expose a darker greyish tone under the colour which is what its important not to let light coloured leather dry and crack

dark colours do the same but its not obvious

yup, as Andy suggests, use the Autoglym - that's what I use. Gets them real clean THEN treat them once clean. Watch out though, they will be slippery!

Just a quick question, is the sitting position on the leather seats higher than the cloth ones? I don't know if its just me but even with the seat base at its lowest position i feel slightly higher. Is there a difference?

Thanks
Phil

yes, but only because the actual cushioning/leather make it higher, the actual framework is the same.

Cloth seats sag way more than the leather ones - mine are the same but I got them adjusted nicely.
