Hi all,

MOT is coming up soon, so decided to investigate my squealing front brakes to make sure that there were no big issues.

One small problem found: brake pad retaining clip was loose enough for me to pull it off - easy to sort, no issues.

One big problem found: while taking the caliper off to sort the first problem, noticed that the brake disc seemed a bit loose. On closer inspection this is due to both the brake disc bolts having sheared off! Luckily one was still long enough to stop the disc from just spinning around freely.

Sooooo... Going to buy a dremel or bolt extraction kit tomorrow to see if I can get what's left of them out.

My question is, does anyone know the part number for new brake disc bolts, or know the size and thread pattern so I can buy something that will do the job?

I'm such an idiot

The disc can't spin if the wheel is on, because it's held in place with the wheel bolts.

Sometimes it's when you step back from a problem you realise it's you who is the problem lol

I run a non standard disc so cant use those bolts anyway and as you've said yourself the wheel bolts holds it all together.
a few extra seconds lining up the holes when changing wheels is only issue as usually the disc slips on the hub as the wheel goes on.

I have the opposite problem... can't get those bolts undone to change the brake disc. My 12mm spanner seems too big and rounds them off but 11mm is too small. Could they be an imperial size?

Try mole grips but don't bother doing them to tight when replacing as they wont be going anywhere.

Try an impact gun/rattle gun.
it that fails try a bit of heat ( propane torch) then the impact gun.
If you don't own an impact just take your 11-12 mm socket with you to a tyre change place and get the guys there to help.
Also use a hammer to hit it a few times to shock the bolt a few times.
