Me again, ;-) with my 1.9 jtd 115.
So ive been rectifying a few bits on the car and am now at a point where as long as she goes through the mot ok then i will be having a go with tuning...
I dont want to go and remap it without a few mods so looking for a bit of guidence.
Intercooler and airbox are very low on these so i want to relocate the setup incase i decide to lower the car. Anyone fitted different intercoolers, would i get any gain from maybe using the audi a3 setup where they have an intercooler on the left and right??? How big can i go???
Turbo :::: anyone fitted a bigger or twin turbos on these???
Decat and/or straight through exhaust::: mot states cats on pre 05 diesels is not required as long as car passes smoke test. Any gains???

Am i right in saying that with the above done, it would then be beneficial to do the remap.

Any guidence much appreciated, using random bits from other cars or specific mods etc. Thoughts?

The Sidemount intercooler is able enough its fine to run a but more power though it if you look at a few posts by sussexa he is a utter hero he knows alot about the Jtd and tuning them , hes got some epic Threads on alfa owners website ,

i have decatted mine and i have not noticed one little diffrance , i took cat out , middle section and back box out ..

a remap would be best imo

depends what sort of power you want ? and what you want to spend ??
if you have 115hp now a tuning box or remap may be more than enough to satisfy your needs at 145-155hp
will feel hell of a lot faster than it is now and suffice for everything bar track days or autobahn racing.
it gets expensive after that for very little gain.
with a fmic and a larger turbo and good remap you could be looking a lot more but then youd be looking at clutch upgrade, possible gearbox reliability, possible driveshaft and cv joint issues and real bad tyre wear if using torque regularly.
as above there should be plenty to pick up in a search on fmic , larger turbos ad tuning box or remaps to keep you busy reading for a week or so.
nearly forgot about exhaust, not worth it gains vs cost until you get above std box or map tuning.
the decats free up the exhaust and help spool a little earlier , reduces exhaust gas temperature a bit but also affects the way the ecu can control the turbo boost so you may end up with overboost spikes or boost creep( requiring more mapping work of vnt % maps)
I did it the long way, tuning box first, then exhaust then fmic then turbo then tuning box off and remap.
heres some tuning box stuff

also I wouldn't waste time or money altering airbox, yes the vapour trap below it is low but no lower than the front of the car, mines lowered and never hit the vapour trap on anything,
fact of life also more people modding their alfa than their fiat
have a read in here
