My stilo (52 reg 1.6) started stalling and the engine light came on. I got a p105 code (MAP sensor faulty) when I did a diagnostic. I even replaced the MAP sensor, I also changed my exhaust, spark plugs and coils. and yet I still have a bad idle. I suspect that there might be a vacuum leak but I'm not an expert.

I've also noticed my fuel is running out quickly ever since I replaced my bad exhaust. I've erased the code and reset my ECU and still the car still has bad idling and the engine light keeps coming up (P105 MAP sensor faulty).

I took some data from the diagnostic in case is helps......Thank you in advance !! ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400183164.497911.jpg

could be all sorts, but if you say the problem occurs when warm, then I'd have the CKP sensor checked or changed. A faulty sensor will certainly cause idling issues, and if it is running on default values you are certainly going to see a drop in economy and performance because the fuelling will be erratic and incorrect. A dead sensor will either stop your car from starting or force the car to use defaults....

just a thought...

fiatritmo I have checked the inlet control valve and it's as clean as it can be. It looks like the previous owner made a good job cleaning it. But thank you for the heads up ! Clivvy where would I locate the ckp sensor ? Could it be underneath around the manifold area? Thanks

I believe so, I don't know the exact position but its at the back of the engine between it and the gearbox somewhere!!

Clivvy thanks I'll check it out tonight. It's just that I thought the fault would show up on the diagnostic. And I'm only getting the pO105 map sensor fault only all the time. It doesn't make sense .....

crank position sensor is on the left hand side of the engine as you look at it with the bonnet up. follow your belts and youll find a dual pulley which both belts are driven from this is your crank pulley... the sensor sits at about the 4o'clock position. air gap (between sensor and toothed part of the wheel) should be about the width of a credit card. if its not... adjust it.

if your coming up with a MAP fault... unplug it if your symptoms remain the same then the 95% sure the MAP sensor will be at fault. bad idles are usually traceable to 'unmetered' air though... also if your coming up with a map sensor fault then it could be sucking in air after the throttle body but before the MAP sensor... check all the hoses that are attached to that upper section of the plastic manifold. also check for cracks in the little portrusions that the hoses push onto. an oldskool way of doing this is spray WD40 around where a leak could be and if the idle changes then you have pretty much sourced your leak.

check the above first and get back to us and i can talk you through checking the voltages that should be seen at the sensor. do you have any other faults accompanying the P0105?

So yesterday I did a thorough check of the of leaks and also the sensors( maybe I might have missed some cracks like you mentioned). However, when I removed the map sensor, the idling would get worse and it would stall( everytime ). I also looked at the crankshaft sensor, and I removed it and tried running the car without it( although it would be tough to start), the car started and would still idle as it would. I cleaned the sensor, placed it back and still the idling continued. I checked the hoses around the map sensor and I had an air duster spray which sprays air, there were no changes in the idling. I tried disconnecting a few electrical sensors and most of them had effect on the car and some of them wouldn't even let the car start so I'm guessing they work.

Thanks for the telling telling me the location of the ckp sensor, not hard to find and not hard to replay or change either. richydraper Clivvy

Cleaned the throttle valve.... I never would have known that even some dust or little dirt could affect the way the car works in terms of idling and the mixtures of air and fuel!! I cleaned the valve and it's working again !! No more idling problems and no more stalling issues !!! Thanks guys !!!

Hay rich how do i adjust the sensor minses sitting about 5mm or so from the toothed wheel  my car wont turn over at all oh and is the starter motor in middle of the belts by any chance?

Cheers Joanne

ajo4 stilo im pretty sure you just push the sensor in (maybe twist it from side to side to help it along)

5mm sounds far too much

the starter motor is on g/box side of the engine not belt side. the middle pulley you refer to im thinking maybe the water pump if its the 1.6.

Hi rich thanks no mine's the 1.4, ill check guides c if theres anything on changing the starter n hopefully c sum pics or a video on you tube lol so u reckon that far away would stop it cranking up?

hi rich my starter defo not on right hand side must b left around crank shaft etc just about to put right wheel back on n start takin it and the under flap thing gggrrrrrr doing my head in not having a car especially when its sumin silly i.e loose connection :bang::bang::bang:

lol let u no how i get on :p
