Hi guys this is just a little message to see what people think of the stilo 1.4 engines, all you who has this engine please tell me your thoughts, I havnt had a stilo for long but to me the little engine seems quite punchy and seems to be very smooth on the motor way, what do you guys think and what's the common problems with then

No experience with other size engines. But I previously owned a 1998 Punto with a 1.2 engine. So I had a little upgrade, not only in looks of the car, but also in engine and power, although it was also quite some weight gain.

I am not disappointed about the engine, but I'm more into the car because of its looks than because of power. Had to replace the head gasket after about 90k km, which seems (in my opinion) to be a common issue with Fiat. But the best of all of owning a Stilo with "only" a 1.4 engine is the accessability underneath the bonnet. I can replace my headlight bulbs without removing the battery, bumper, headlight units or wheel arches.

We are running a 1.4 which has now done just over 60k. Previously had a 1.2 which we sold at 160k. The 1.4 has a noticeable performance improvement over the 1.2 although uses slightly more fuel . We have a 1.4 bravo which is not as good performance as the stilo, presumably weight difference and slightly different engines.
As long as you dont expect to be a boy racer the 1.4 is fine for general motoring and we often get 50 plus mpg on motorway runs.
Service it regularly and replace the cambelt when due and enjoy .

I carnt be a boy racer at age 37 ha, just got the car quite cheap, it's quite tidy and a nice drive, the cam belt does need doing and il get in done very soon, yer good little car

1.4 is a gem. 67,000 in mine over 7 years without a fault. Feels right in any gear and has enough power for me, especially with one or two people aboard. Even fully loaded autobahn cruising at 80mph in 6th gear is easy.

Hi there I have a 1.4 stilo myself which iv owned for 6months with just 44k on the clock, I find the car very roomy and comfy to drive . But the only thing I have is the juddering clutch issue with mine to which the garage tested and said it's fine there's nothing wrong with it , but that is one fault to look out for on the 1.4 engines is juddering clutch. Iv learned to live with it now but apart from that the stilo is a good run a round .
